I bought scammed items by accident and i need admin help.

Hey im a tf2 unusual trader.

This is what happened:

7/29/2014 a trader (The Melting - http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198146046497) added me.

This person was selling unusual quicksells for low values.

I was talking and they said to add there main account

That account had 7 unusuals on it. This person was trying to get rid of them fast and offered 2 of them (Burning Dapper and GE Hallmark) for my 1 Bud and 25 Keys. I asked this person multiple times why are you selling these for this low of price. They responded with confusion or they just moved on. (Clearly at time i was too focused on the deal to even see this was phishy. Also i am still fairly new at unusual trading and i saw this as a jump to big bucks.) We made the deal and again i asked why? The person simply moved on.

Later in the night i figured out the truth.

This person is a friend of the victim (#Marksman - http://steamcommunity.com/id/Legendary__Wolf__/)
Pyro told me that his friend was scammed out of multiple unsusuals and it just so happened that i bought some of them without knowing it. He told me to post here.

I apologize greatly for my actions as i was stupid and unknowing.
I now understand what i did was wrong and i would like some admin help to resolve this problem.
I bought these out of greed and just plain stupidity. Over the last few weeks i have lost money and i saw this as something to resolve everything.

So you didn't think that a Burning Dapper's Topper and a GE Hustler's Halmark for less than 3 buds was at all suspicious?

You see im pretty much a new unusual trader. My logic here was that this person just wanted to get rid of it. Out of stupidity i didn't put 2 and 2 together that it was fishy, because at the time i was greedy and i wanted to make the deal. I checked the history it was clean, and i checked the persons bag so i knew i wasn't sharking since they had a scorching pyromancer too. Using that I made a judgement call that turned up being bad. I wanted a shortcut into higher tier trading and i saw this as one

well this probably isn't what SteamREP would recommend, but i know for me, given that I know who was scammed. I would sell them their scammed items back for what I paid for them. So save the hats until the scammed user gets 1 bud + 25 keys and can rebuy his own hats at that ridiculously cheap price. That way instead of being scammed out of well over 10 buds he is only losing sub-3. This way it shows it was truly an accident that you traded with this scammer and that you don't want to profit off of scammers and had no intention of helping a scammer, as well as helping out the true victim in this situation.


Again that is just what I would do, if I were in your position, so I can't say that others (admins and staff included) will agree with my position.

Actually, I do think that that idea has some merit. For it would show that he had not really the intention to go for scammed stuff.

In general we do say: here you have a stern warning, we note it down at the profile, and move on. With above we could skip the warning/note.

I gave the victim his dapper for 2 buds and he really was only interested in the dapper as that was his prize possesion. He didnt care to much about the GE and he let me keep it i plan if i am going to sell i will try to give 2+ buds back to him for letting me keep the other

You don't. You could ask for it to be locked/archived, but that's about it.
