Hey guys, I'm making this thread 6 months after being given a SteamRep caution tag as per http://forums.steamrep.com/threads/76561198009590775-j-o-n-d.43254/

First, I'd like to explain the circumstances of when I accidentally bought the buds off the marked account. Basically, I make a lot of trades daily as someone who constantly buys and sells earbuds and keys and plays a major role in stocking TF2Shop. I made a dumb mistake, I was overwhelmed with friend requests and forgot to check this trader on SteamRep to make sure he was clean. I know my mistake is inexcusible and I have paid for it over the last 6 months with my caution tag which has definitely limited my trading.

I ask you to put yourself in my shoes at the time of the incident. The account I traded with: http://steamcommunity.com/id/earldedarkwood/ has a high Steam level and appears to be a legitimate trader, I understand this isn't an excuse for my mistake but I want to make it clear that I didn't purposefully trade with a marked account (as made obvious by the fact I left him reputation on his profile.. obviously i wouldn't have done that if i would have known he was a s marked scammer.

I believe that I deserve to have my SteamRep caution tag removed because I have proven over the last six months that I don't trade with scammers. Quite to the contrary I go out of my way to help everyone I come into contact. I have several impersonators running around and I actively help anyone who comes into contact with them & help protect anyone else from falling for them. I also have kept my friends list clear of anyone even marked on SteamRep. I check all friend requests on SteamRep before I accept them to make sure there isn't even the smallest chance of making the same mistake.

Long story short, I made a mistake, admitted to it and apologized and have spent the six months proving that I don't deserve this tag. If there are any questions or anyone wants to get in contact with me feel free to let me know.

    Thanks guys,
    Jon.

You already were given a final warning and also already were granted an appeal for a previous caution tag for the exact same thing. As lots of people probably already told you, being an admin, you should have known better.

Sidenote, 5 months is nothing for the backlog we have. :(

    1) The "final warning" was over 5 keys off and only had to do with me being an admin on tf2outpost
    2) I am no longer an admin anywhere, no normal user would be punished for that so why should that be held against me?

The "you should have known better" thing is so easy to say but when you're swamped with trades it's easy to make a small mistake. A caution tag is supposed to warn that someone isn't the best to trade with, what's mine saying exactly? I've never scammed anyone or even bought scammed items, I've had almost a year now without a single issue and have helped report plenty of scammers but apparently I should be warned against being traded with?

Hello @J-O-N :D, as you probably know the policy on trading with scammers has been retroactively changed, so I am granting this appeal and removing your tag. http://forums.steamrep.com/threads/policy-change-trades-with-scammer-policy-end-of-life.119528/ That said, just as an FYI regarding your reply about "normal users", a retired admin is not considered a normal user and you are still, generally speaking, held to a higher standard. Leaving staff forceably or voluntarily does not magically give you plausible deniability about the rules.

    Read this topic: http://forums.steamrep.com/threads/appeal-tips.66354/
And please pay special note to the following point(s):
#24: Your appeal was granted, what now?

For the future, we recommend taking care who you trade with. While we no longer issue tags for trading with scammers, other communities may still ban you. Additionally, if it doesn't earn a trade ban from Valve, we may still issue tags for brokering/fencing with scammers. If you want to trade with a single scammer, we won't hold it against you, but further systematic trades with scammers can still earn you a tag.
