What happened? Description:

The accused added me (the victim) and offered a $386 prepaid Visa Card for my Huntsman Knife | Fade Factory New. He agreed that it would be a good idea to find a middleman, so we both found different ones and added them in the hopes of expediting the trade process. His own middleman going by the name of Alias added me and asked to go through with the deal, but I was alerted to the fact that it was an impersonator based on his Steam Profile and thanks to the help the Steamrep middleman I had found (http://steamcommunity.com/id/Dracowolf/). After being alerted, the Steamrep middleman helped walk me through how to report them and what actions to take.

Image 1: A picture of the group chat that the impersonator invited me to. This image was taken after he had been exposed and had already left the group chat.

Image 2: A picture of the attempted trade sent by the impersonator, with the group chat on my second screen. This was during the attempted scam while my Steamrep Middleman was instructing me on collecting evidence for a report.

Image 3: A picture of the full original chat from the impersonator when they added me.

Image 4, Image 5, and Image 6 consist of the full chat between the victim and the accused.

All I really have to add is these, I didn't interact with the two subjects but the scam was clear as day.

He attempted to use a fake middleman to take the item from the victim, after a quick 'negotiating' involving the price of the knife.

The screenshots I'm listing show the fake middleman on the subject's friends list, posting as Alias, a D2T MM and the friend association. The subject knew the fake MM, as they were friends long before this trade ever took place. The chat-log I'm attaching is my chats with the victim.

Please disregard the line where I called Alias a 'wanker'. I was hoping to get him to join the victim's group chat, so the subject and fake MM would run with tails between their legs. The real MM was asleep at this time.

I wish I'd looked at this before I even initiated a conversation, I would have grabbed all of the screenshots and baited him in like nobodies business. I can confirm this profile, under the name "Gurt" currently, is a scammer. If you also notice, his +rep on his profile page is just a circle jerk of fake accounts giving each other rep. Avoid this guy like the plague!

Hello. I am Gurt the user who did indeed attempt this scam. This had happened a couple months ago and since then I have changed. In this scam i was attemtping a middle man scam which looking back is never right and stupid. I would like to apologize to the user i did it to as well as the community for this act of assholeness. Your report was accepted and the accused was banned. Feel free to report a violation via their Steam profile.

In order to do that, you have to:
1. Visit the accused's profile
2. Click "More" drop-down located at the top right of the page
3. Choose "Report Violation"
4. Select the violation, then describe it and provide the evidence
5. Click "Submit Report"
