    Scam Report

Report Type: [Rep Fraud] Impersonation with intent to defraud
Virtual item type involved: [TF2] Team Fortress 2 Items

    Accused profile: 76561198096426939

    Victim profile: 76561198017825266

    What happened? Description:
The scammer impersonated my friend and I gave him one of my Unusuals in the believe that he was actually my friend and wouldn't scam me.

    Provide Evidence:
So basically, my friend http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198000638538/ Croakz has just been getting into unusual trading and had worked his way up to an Overclocker Buccaneer's Bicorne. He got a trade offer for 2.5 buds in a trade server, but the guy who offered on claimed it was duped and wanted my friend to trade it to me for a second to see if the item ID would change. My friend traded it to me and I traded him back, no problem. After that the guy who was buying my friend's hat added me to discuss trading related things. He asked me about duped hats and stuff like that and asked if I was a friend of Croakz's.

I talked to him for a while and he said "Can you trade your unusuals to your friend so I know you two can trust each other?". I found this a strange offer, but I figured since I hadn't been added by anyone but him and I had a chat open with my friend and I knew him IRL, there would be no risk. I was put into a group chat and the scammer's friend told my friend (or rather the impersonator of my friend) to take my hats for a few minutes. My friend said okay and I thought none of it. The impersonator sent me a trade offer under the name of my friend (as in, I only got a pop-up saying "Croakz wants to trade with you") and I accepted it. I traded him my Kill-a-Watt Brown Bomber and accepted the trade. The guy who was offering on my friend's hat said in the group chat that he wasn't happy with me only trading one of my unusuals to my friend so I asked my friend in private chat what was up. He said he didn't know which unusual trade I was talking about (by the way, we chat in Finnish so I knew he was the real friend). At this point I realized what had happened. I tried to get the hat back from the scammer by saying I needed to price check it and would trade the other four if he just gave it back to me for a minute. He didn't and removed me from his friends.

What I found weird, and what basically got me was that the guy hadn't added me and still sent a trade invitation. I did not know this was possible, so I accepted the trade invitation I had gotten without thinking none of it. Also, my friend lost his Buccaneer's Bicorne to the same scam, where the guy was impersonating me under my name. As to why I fell for this scam, I was tired, I was laying in bed and didn't think a trade invitation from my friend would be a hazard.

Here's the hat in the history http://backpack.tf/item/1812661201 and here's the guy who offered on my friends hat (pretty much making him the accomplice in this scam)

Also sorry if the report type is wrong, I wasn't sure which category this type of scam would fall under.

Please complete the following steps, exactly as written, in order:
    1. Go to your trade history from in your web browser. https://steamcommunity.com/my/inventoryhistory
    2. Scroll down to the trade in question. It may be on a different page, but that's fine; just open the page which has this particular trade.
    3. Hover your mouse over the name of the person who received your item(s).
    4. With your mouse still over the name from step 3, take a full, uncropped screenshot, and save it to your desktop without making any edits.
    5. Right-click the name of the person who received your item(s) from the trade history page, and select Copy Link Address (Chrome), Copy Link Location (Firefox), or Copy shortcut (Internet Explorer).
    6. Go to SteamRep.com and paste that link into the Search field. If a warning opens up (which may or may not happen), click "I understand".
    7. Copy and Paste the full text from the box below the profile picture that comes up into your next reply. You can click the "Copy Info" button on the SteamRep profile page from step 6.
    8. Upload your screenshot from step 4 as an attachment.
    9. Post your reply, including both step 7 and 8.
Do NOT paste links that look like this: https://steamcommunity.com/id/mattie because those links can change, and they are not easily searchable.
Do NOT look up the accused's profile from the admin/middleman lists, or from any other website. We need you to provide the link exactly as it comes up following the instructions above.
Do include the full SteamRep block derived from the Steam community URL.
