    Scam Report

Report Type: [Item Fraud] Quick-switch trade scam or attempt
Virtual item type involved: [TF2] Team Fortress 2 Items

    Accused profile: 76561198146083898

    Victim profile: 76561198059596652

    What happened? Description:
The accused added me asking if I was still selling my cloudy moon scotch bonnet, which I responded yes to. Before telling me what he was offering he asked me if my hat was duped or clean and to provide proof, which truthfully I was not sure how to do. After checking outpost and tf2items he asked me to send my hat to a "trustworthy friend" so that he could check to make sure that the transaction went through. Afterwards when I went to trade my friend (killohurtz, http://steamcommunity.com/id/killohurtz/, http://steamrep.com/search?q=http://steamcommunity.com/id/killohurtz/) she claimed to have pop up windows while chatting but thought nothing of it. When I traded her, she claimed that she thought that she had already traded the hat back to me, which was when we both realized that an impersonator must have do a quick-switch trade scam to steal the hat away from my friend. The account to which the hat was sent to was http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198143648857. Shortly after the scam occurred the alledged scammer changed his account back from open to private.

Below are screenshots of the chat, descriptions, etc. Please help to ban this scammer and his accomplice.

    Provide Evidence:
The suspectchat windows are in two parts since it could not fit on one screen. It shows the alleged asking me to trade away my hat to my friend so that he could check the history. Afterwards I went to trade back my friend in the "killohurtzfriendchat.PNG" who was thoroughly confused with the situation. The hat's history shows it going to the account of http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198143648857 in "impersonator.PNG." The impersonator's steamrep page is http://steamrep.com/search?q=http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198143648857.

I am the friend mentioned by the OP, and I can confirm the description and evidence provided is true. Attached is my inventory history, which shows the unusuals were sent to the impersonator's account. At the time of the trade, this user's name was 0b33zy and had the same icon as my friend.

@0b33zy We need your screenshot of the accused's profiles to be uncropped and unedited.

We also need screenshots of your own inventory history, taken from within the Steam client with the URL bar visible. If you don't have the URL bar visible within Steam, please enable it. To enable the URL bar, go to View -> Settings -> Interface. Check the box next to Display Steam URL address bar when available.

Additionally, please provide us with uncropped, unedited screenshots of your chat. The ones you uploaded are heavily and inconsistently cropped.

@killohurtz Please upload an uncropped, unedited screenshot(s) of your inventory history, taken from within the Steam client with the URL bar visible. If you don't have the URL bar visible within Steam, please enable it. To enable the URL bar, go to View -> Settings -> Interface. Check the box next to Display Steam URL address bar when available.

Also, if you have any screenshots of your chat with the impersonator, could you please provide those as well?

Here's an uncropped screenshot of my inventory history. Unfortunately I don't have any screenshots of my chat with the impersonator as I closed it before I realized what had happened, but there wasn't much actual communication with them aside from the trade requests. I added a screenshot of their current profile showing the name 0b33zy in their name history (which had no visible period at the end while I was trading--not sure how they pulled that off)

Also, there was a miscommunication when 0b33zy wrote the first post. He was unaware that I had lost my unusual (steaming grenadier's softcap) as well when we were asked to hold each other's hats to prove that we were trustworthy. So I'll add that here to explain why there are two different unusuals in my trade history.

So, I just saw this post now due to being at school all day and when I returned home half of the chat that I had with the accuser is no longer in the log and the conversation that I was having with Killohurtz is no longer available either. I will upload my inventory, the user's profile, and the part of the chat that I still have, but as of right now I have no idea how to recover the lost part of the chat. If you know of a way to recover it I will follow your instructions and get the chat. Thanks.

Update: Just got a recommendation to check my mobile app to see older conversations but he accused blocked me on steam (I still have him added if I need to grab more information about him), so the conversation from earlier is no longer obtainable for me.

@killohurtz Can you tell us more about the arrangement with the Grenadier's Softcap? Who asked you to trade it, and why? Do you have screenshots of this request?

@0b33zy Can you retake the screenshot of the accused's profile with their profile URL visible? If you don't have the URL bar visible within Steam, please enable it. To enable the URL bar, go to View -> Settings -> Interface. Check the box next to Display Steam URL address bar when available.

I don't have screenshots of this conversation either unfortunately. The scammer (accused profile in the first post) was the one doing all of the communication, and he requested that me and 0b33zy send each other our unusuals and then send them back to show that we could be trusted. Separately, I might add, probably to make it easier to fool me in the trade windows as we didn't trade hat for hat. He told me to hold 0b33zy's unusual first, then send it back, and then asked me to give him mine, and so on. Both unusuals went through my inventory while we did this, and that's when the impersonator came in to send the trade requests for them.
