In some situations, you may need to request assistance from a moderator or admin by reporting a post. This guide explains how and when to submit a post report, and when you should not use it. If you don't know how to report a post, see below.

    When to report a post:

These are some good reasons to report a post:
    • Contains personal information.
      Hidden Content:
**Hidden Content: Content of this hidden block can only be seen by members of (usergroups: Administrative, Emeritus, Moderating, Retired, SteamRep Friend Members, SteamRep Partner Members, SteamRep Partner SCAs, Valve (Automatic)).**
    • Fake report, maliciously made against you. See: Removing unconfirmed reports
    • Accidentally reported yourself, and need the victim and accused blocks reversed to remove "unconfirmed report" from your profile.
    • Discovered you were dealing with an impersonator after submitting report, and wish to remove "unconfirmed report" from innocent impersonation victim's profile.
    • Spam - which includes off-topic or commercial links, malware, or general advertisement posts from spambots.
    • Highly inappropriate or illegal content, such as animal cruelty gifs, child exploitation, or gore/shock images.
    • Extreme cases of harassment, flaming, or spamming in a way that makes a thread unreadable such as posting the same thing repeatedly to obstruct reading. Spam or harassment on forum profiles can be reported as well.
    • Duplicate posts resulting from accident or system error.
    • Requesting any kind of moderation, including locking or unlocking a thread.
Post reports are not for any of the following:
    • Reporting a scammer.
    • Getting your report handled quicker.
    • Arguing with or contesting something, e.g. calling someone a liar.
    • Responding to a report against you; keep everything in the open.
    • Removing something you disagree with.
    • Disagreeing with a staff member's decision to reject your report or appeal.
    • Appealing your tag.
Repeatedly sending frivolous post reports, similar to the examples above, may result in a warning or temporary ban from the forums.

    How to report a post:

To make a post report, simply click on the Report link at the bottom left of the post:

    Report Button.png

That link will open up a field where you explain why you're reporting. Make sure you report the right post.

    Report Dialog.png

Make sure you are as descriptive as possible. This is meant for a quick moderation, not part of the investigation. If the moderator can't figure out what you're trying to say or why you reported this post in a couple minutes, without digging into your case, they're not going to do anything.

For example, if you're reporting personal information or "doxing", state what parts you consider to be personal information. If it's in attachments, say which ones, and where in those screenshots your personal information is shown.
