What happened? Description:

I'm calling this a confidence con. Here's what happened first, chat caps to follow:

1) Trader (then Maratoh, but IRL "Anshul" he says) who has talked to me for months and established good rapport begs to buy a Murrissey because he really NEEDS it. He's trying to convert all his keys to the biggest items possible.
2) We agree upon 305 keys (below market at the time) and that he'll fill a trade window with 256 then pass over the remaining 49 immediately thereafter.
3) Trade for 256 keys is completed and buyer immediately goes offline.
4) Buyer returns acknowledging the debt but saying that his account has been hijacked. It is frozen and his inventory is emptied of everything of value.
5) I watch the account for months, checking in to say hi, and just several weeks ago see the inventory is big again and includes an unboxed Murrissey.
6) I ask for my keys.
7) I am unfriended and blocked.
8) I have mutual friends contact the account.
9) He re-adds me and tells me he's a new account owner and knows nothing of his debt to me.

I recognize that this is an odd sort of scam, and although I disbelieve the hijacking story and power outage excuse, I wasn't sure this was deliberate reneging until i heard that he's done this to others and was using Maratoh's rep thread and reddit account to conduct trades after telling me he's a new account holder. I hope, in conjuction with the other report of identical behavior from this account, that we have enough to get him tagged.​

Provide Evidence:

Chat logs are included below. The include pre-trade negotiation of the price (305) keys. Post-trade acknowledgement of having gone offline and then having been hijacked before he could complete the trade. Finally, I have a few lines from the new account name (Kaiko) indicating that he's a new account owner.​

As promised, of returning the keys, i proposed 25keys to be returned in 2weeks time, wherein starting the conversation again i returned him 10, and were returned 1week after or so, and Mr GoodGravy As said that he would end the matter then and there itself, didnt do so and wanted to drag it over here for no reason, i really dont understand this, if anyone needs proof of me returning him 10 keys and the next set of 15keys more ill provide them as well, and also about the talk which we had about him calling it a truce on this matter and moving ahead from this matter .

And i really dont understand this statement? What have i done to others? WHat whom please tell me anyone whom i've done this to ? Never, and about you as well the proofs you, yourself have given it, and why didnt u give the proofs of me returning the 10keys to you and the remaining 15keys ?? Why dont u provide the chat to that , where u agreed that u would call it a truce when i complete the 15keys trade? Mistakes and delays happen from everyone but at the end we sorted up things, so why not put that as well? If u cant shall i do that ?

So i feel i gave my part of word .

I offered you a 25 key payoff within 48 hours, which you missed. Then you harassed my Indian friend who was generously serving as intermediary between us. You refuse to establish that you are who you say you are, and in the attached discussion with my contact, you challenge his loyalty, drawing on the fact that you've been "friends" for a long time. Then you remember that you just bought the account and you have no business calling on past loyalties. Oops.

I explain to "Craig" the new account owner how to use cell phone authentication to protect Steam accounts. You say you've always been on yahoo. Later we agree to correspond via email and you give me a 2-minute old GMAIL account, despite the fact that I've just established my RL identity and asked you to do the same.

I've declined the 15 keys you mention and returned the 10 you gave me. Transaction caps attached also.

You can pay me the *49* Dota 2 keys you (or your former account holder) owed me now or take your keys back and try your luck.

in the chats i had completely stated and asked for a week's time for the remaining 15keys, but then u chose to report and now this new scenario of 48hours? I dont know from where is this coming from, as far as i remember, i had clearly stated 1 week's time, and the Indian friend i harassed? You can get him to a steam conversation if you need and talk to him, cause what you are talking about is like 10-15days old talk with him, and you being so hellbent on identity, well this is virtual gaming and no one can be forced to reveal identity, if you are so free in life to reveal yours, you are free to go ahead and do so, and about the keys your talking about, you yourself agree to an agreement, and when u feel that no you want more, you report and prove that your not the man of your own word. And about the chat series, i really never had a conversation like that with him, as u can see the date , and also at the same time i mentioned to you about the details.

And when ur asking 49 keys, due then when the trade was made, by the research i made, keys for dota2 were for 1.6-1.7$ or so and right now if u compare the same keys , they are for 2.1-2.2$ right now , so the amount and price of keys will also change and reduce too, if u look at that perspective as well, and also keeping aside all the aspects and the talks we had, im posting this, which is quite irrelevant, but still just to mention the *49* Dota 2 keys you pointed out!

All the items returned, as spoken to Mr. GoodGravy , here are the screenshots, and sorry for the delay and all the drama, etc.

Even if the dispute was settled, if the evidence is enough, most likely the staff will still review and tag if accepted. The fact is, the scammer still scammed and that isn't something to overlook.

There were some misconceptions and misunderstandings created by a 3rd person and so etc and it went on misleading both of us, and so we practically sat down and discussed everything from part 1 and got it sorted and here we are sorted out, and im sure the matter is quite clear, and as i mentioned it was just the delay but the talk of scam never came into picture, cause it was just the misunderstanding, and about the scam, i never mentioned that i would not return or any of that sort, i always mentioned i would and i did also, just the amounts were inappropriate, so here we are solving this matter in peace
