    - None were taken
    - Possibly available through other steam member who experienced a similar attempted scam on the same server by the same person.

    Description:
    1. Was in a trade server, individual named "mr joe' who has since changed posted onto the chat a trade for a strange degreaser for 3 craft hats.
    2. Invited to trade, person accepted.
    3. Showed hats 3 craft hats [Copper's Hard Top, Détective Noir, Madame Dixie]. Here the person says let me think about it, and says hold on for 5-10 minutes. I interject and say how about I close the trade window and you can reinitiate a trade with me. He rejects, saying keep it open and tells me to keep playing and he will let me know whether he wants to proceed. After a few minutes, person says they are happy to trade.
    4. At this point i had not pressed ready; the person clicked ready but unbeknownst to me the person had switched the strange degreaser (which was of an orange border to a normal one). I pressed confirm and once I did, I realised straight away they did a quick switch and I attempted to cancel the trade but it was too late, we had both clicked.
    5. Resultant trade (from trade history):
    Aug 10
    You traded with Hitman.7:17pm
    +The Degreaser
–Copper's Hard Top, Détective Noir, Madame Dixie

    Offences:
    1. Deceptive trading: quick switched an item at the last moment.

    Scammer methodology:
    Presents actual item
Redirects your attention, setting up their own trade item page to normal weapon(assuming).
Switches item, to an unknowing individual who has not experienced quick switching.

N.B. Always check your trade window and the persons items before completing the trade. The nature of the trade is deceptive, it is unlikely that normal traders would trade 3 craft hats for a "normal" weapon, especially since I had 3 of them at the time and also on the general value of the item. I have not be quick switched before so I did not expect the person to do that. Person has traded away my detective noir as of this post. It is advisable to screenshot and copy the chat window; F12 does not screenshot the chat window for some reason, only the game window.

If further evidence is required, I may be able to provide information from another steam member who was in the same trade server who the scammer attempted the quick switch with.

If you could somehow provide screenshots, then we can move this report along.

    You said it "Always check"

Quick-switching is no longer possible, and the ONLY reason the occasional swap happens, is because people are idiots and do not check, which is trivial since any removal/addition is now listed.

If people bothered to check, rather than accept trades without properly checking, SR would not be inundated by pointless threads on this matter.

Thanks for the quick reply and interest in pursuing this thread Bacon. I have contacted another member who has provided me with a screenshot of his encounter with this individual, which is available through this link: http://i.imgur.com/NF5VA.png
I suppose this screenshot might not be incriminating enough, without the game chat log of "selling strange degreaser for x" and more detail in the chat log illustrating "Strange degreaser has been removed" "Degreaser has been added" for instance. So upon prima facie, it may not seem to be a high level of 'evidence'. If however this person is continuing on their conduct and I be present in their misconduct then it would be likely that I would be able to collect the necessary information. If you require a different site or method of image uploading please let me know.

Thanks for your feedback [WP] VenGanZa, I suppose the key thing was I didn't press the ready key beforehand as the trader was not yet ready to proceed (as part of I suppose the unspoken language of trade etiquette you wouldn't usually check the box unless both parties are willing to proceed with the trade transaction). I agree that there are many aspects of steam trade which have given traders 'protection' for these type of quick-switching scams but at the time many factors could have contributed to this unfortunate predisposition. For example, fatigue could have lead to a level of impatience which may have translated into a more expedited form of trade. I might recall that there was a number of messages the person posted below the actual message screen which would have shown me the quick-switch, again this could have been prevented if I exacted a higher level of prudence. You bring about an interesting perspective about these threads occur largely as a result of misplaced judgement or fenestrations in human perception which you may be familiar with (e.g. getting tapped in the shoulder and pick pocketed or other sort of 'magic' tricks in youtube). To add to that point, I would not have created this thread had I not felt that there was a need to seek some sort of action against this misconduct (yet to be proven) as to preserve the interests of the trading population that might not be so exposed or experienced traders like you. Also, would you be able to direct me to some sort of chat logging tool or screenshot tool as I have found that the F12 in game one is unable to capture the trade window but rather the in game screen.

To add to the comment "You said it "Always check"" [WP] VenGanZa, the benefits of hindsight aren't so apparent unless you have given some reflection into the matter.

Enough time has been given and the user failed to give the requested information.

As such, I'll reject this report.

Please feel free to rewrite it should you feel the need so.

    Thanks!
