What happened? Description:

Impersonator added me out of the blue, and when I checked his profile, he says that this is an alt account for purchasing, or what have you. I get some legit purchases from things like this, so I accept, but keeping an eye for anything suspicious.


He showed interest in my Unusual Conjurer's Cowl, and said he'd pay 18 pure for it.


I checked his SteamRep at this point, and saw that he was banned for "glitched identification" scams, but he said he was going to pay for it. So I gave him the benefit of the doubt, and told him to send me a trade request.


At that point, I checked his inventory, and saw that he has only 2 items, his mercenary badge and a crate.


He asked for the link to my trade, so he could send from his main. I told him it was posted on the backpack.tf listing, but gave it to him anyways.


At that point, he starts asking about opskins, whether I know what it is and if I use it.


I told him I know what it is, and that I do not use it since I don't deal with skins of any sort.


He told me he uses it near-exclusively, and wants to make sure that it can be sold.


That threw up a red flag, but I knew a way around it, so I logged in through my Steam ID, and set up a listing without confirming it. I took a screenshot and sent to him to prove it can be listed there.


He didn't even look at it, but instead told me to list it at 9999 so no one else can buy it while he verifies it.


I knew at that point he was trying to scam me, so I told him that it can be listed, since if it couldn't, it would be greyed out like the crate seen in the screenshot.


He insisted that being greyed out means it was not tradable, and if it was colored in, then it can be traded. So the only way to prove that it was able to be listed, WAS to list it, and the item bot would determine that.


The thing is, he gave an entire block of text in about half a second. So I knew that it was copy-paste.


I stood my ground, telling him that I was not going to list it on the site, and that the screenshot shows it can be listed.


He insisted on me listing it at 9999, then continued with the "greyed out means non-tradable" shtick.


So I showed him the crate in my inventory that was greyed out, yet tradable.


I also showed him my Dueling Minigame that was greyed out, and tradable.


For comparison, I was going to show him my Director's Vision taunt that is non-tradable, and was not showing up in the list, but at that point, he deleted me.


No items were exchanged during the attempt, and no items were traded in any way.​

Thanks for the report, however the user is already banned on SteamRep so there isn't much more we can do. Therefore I'm archiving this report.

However report the user to Valve
In order to do that, you have to:
1. Visit the accuseds profile
2. Click MORE drop-down located at the top right of the page
3. Choose REPORT VIOLATION
4. Select the violation, then describe it and provide the evidence
5. Click SUBMIT REPORT
