Question regarding Valve probation and the appeals process

I was wondering if an Admin could give some clarification as to how Valve probation affects the appeals process.

A user contacted me about submitting his appeal and we talked for a long time making sure his report had all necessary parts and format. The user in question has been sincere about correcting his wrongs and has contacted the person he scammed and paid back what was taken. He understands that people only receive one appeal and wants to ensure that his appeal has the best chance of being accepted so that he can have a second chance at being a honest trader. He currently has a Valve probation and has contacted Valve about the length of the probation, receiving mixed responses.

The question is, does his probation severely hamper his chances of a successful appeal so much as to warrant holding off on submitting until the probation is lifted? Or would it be in his best interests to submit his report ASAP regardless of the probation?

The valve trade ban/probation doesn't really matter on a appeal. It will however be asked about, and asked to show those in the interview. To establish:
- If its about the same issue as the report.
- or something not related, but not scammer tag worthy.

It is important to remember that Valve Trade Ban/Probation does NOT always mean a user is or was a scammer (though this is usually how it is).

A case in point, Swampy, a friend of mine, who ideally should wear a collar due to his anger issues and lack of self-control, received a trade ban for language and unacceptable behavior towards and individual.

I'm not sure when that was but to the best of my knowledge, a user would not be trade-banned because of that.

I've seen this happen before for racism, insults, etc. It's a "community ban" or whatever you want to call it. There is no "Banned" displayed on their profile, but the user is unable to add friends, trade, etc.
Identical to being trade restricted.

hmm, I know of that one, that they do if you put offensive imagery in avatar, or porn pics in the screenshots library etc. That is indeed not trade related. They just do that against your profile and delete/clear what was offensive. But I didn't know that that also blocked trade/interaction with other users.

I can ask Swampy if there was a "banned" or not (I forget). I do know it was for several months, and yes it was for racist comments/language and abusive behavior.

Just checked: It was indeed a "community ban" for abuse.

How do i remove the scammer notice so when i trade people they dont say " oh your a scammer i wont trade with you"?
its really annoying because i got trade banned 2 months before i knew i did plz help

Please appeal your tag in the appeals section. Read the stickies in that section first. We also don't handle valve bans. Contact steam support for that
