I recently purchased 15 buds from Damanson via paypal, without knowning that he was recently tagged as a scammer only 21 hours prior to the stated purchase. He has been on my friends list for a very long time; I normally check my friends list for any new scammer tags every few weeks and he was clean the last time I checked (probably a week prior to my purchase), so I didn't really have a huge impetus to suddenly check his steamrep, as I often buy buds in bulk from people on my friends list who are known to the community and to me.
First off, I take complete responsibility and am not denying that I traded with a tagged scammer. This is completely an oversight on my part. However there was very little reason for me to suspect him and recheck his SR for several reasons 1) He's been a longtime steam friend who I see frequently on trade servers 2) he frequents tf2 trader which I know has a scammer plugin 3) I've traded with him in the past both with $ without issue 3) my activity recently on tf2 has been very low due to RL demands and I have not been "in the loop" with respect to anything going on in terms of an investigation of Damanson.
Another concern with regard to this trade is probably that I used my alt "gale" 76561198071368732 to conduct the trade. There are 2 simple reasons that this was done 1) I bought the buds to primarily convert to keys to trade for paypal 2) my main account's bp was nearly full and my other PC has recently been experiencing problems so I was afraid that I would not be able to trade between my accounts once I have acquired the keys and storage would run out with just a 1 bud to key conversion.
It was my plan to use my alt (which is listed on my rep page http://tf2-trader.com/index.php?topic=21886.0) to store the buds, convert to keys and use a friends PC to transfer when I had the chance. In other words, there was no deception in the use of my alt to do the transaction.
I was first notified of this mishap when I spoke with Pretender who alerted me that Damanson was tagged prior to my purchasing buds from him. While I completely agree that I made a mistake in not checking his SR prior to purchase, I know that it is SR's philosophy that tags are made for people who are felt to be a treat to the community and are used in a way to protect the community from toxic traders. I do not feel that I fit that mold. I am a well known trader in the community and I do not have any previous records of shady or anything resembling unjust behavior with regard to trading. My reputation is very important to me as I am a leader in the community as a server admin on PPM and previously on TF2 Trader, I have never and would NEVER do any kind of deal with a marked scammer to jeopardize myself and betray any kind of trust within the community, no matter the circumstances. I know many people who would vouch that I have always made efforts to try to protect the community and be fair in all trading. I feel that while, I made a mistake, I pose no threat to the trading community as this is a first offense which was completely inadvertent and a result of bad timing. I am only human.
I have the utmost respect for SR and what SR represents and what they do to help the trading community and I will respect the verdict on this matter and will be more vigilant with future trades. I hope that an admin will consider my request to be untagged.
