So he added me and offered me $80 in Paypal for my unusual desert marauder. I picked a middleman from steamrep, he seemed ok with that and added him too, and we had a steam group chat. Then an imposter (third steamid) adds me and acts as the real middleman. When I mentioned it to the initial trader, he went offline.

It appears he's making quite a reputation.

It didn't even make it to the stage where I was going to search for claims >.<. He claimed that he was 'lagging' and unable to chat well. At this point a fake me attempted to trade with the seller using a common group. Once that failed he removed us both from friends. I had not even established what the trade was before a fake MM attempted a trade.

Lesson for others: Always trade with the Middleman, do not accept trade requests unless you are absolutely certain it is the real one. I suggest nicknaming them.

Yeah or just pay attention to your chat. I immediately knew something wasn't right when I suddenly had another Mad-Matt invite me to trade.
