    Reason for the Tag -
Today when i logged in to steam i was told that i've been given a "SR Caution" Tag for trading with a marked scammer. I checked the Steam-Rep website and i found out that someone reported me for trading with a marked scammer. The thread is here - http://forums.steamrep.com/threads/report-76561198021272428-dx.3216/

Why i should be untagged -
When i was going through the thread I found out that about 3 months ago i acquired a Burning Flames Samureye from a guy called Mr.Max. As i got the hat in the trade server after about 30-35 mins of negotiation I was completely unaware about his position as "Marked Scammer "on Steam-Rep. I got carried away a little bit because of the fact that it was a Samureye and i wanted that hat for a long time due to which i forgot to check his Steam Profile and Reputation.

I've been trading in team fortress 2 since the mann.co trading update which came in 2010 and never ever been involved in false trading practices. I am active around most of the trading websites and servers for over an year now and never got banned or reported in any of them.

I do respect Steam-rep a lot and have reported a few scammers before but this time i found myself on the otherside which is a shame and i feel guilty of not checking steam-rep which was a stupidity on my side. I assure you that this will never happen again and i will make sure that i am trading with legit traders. If i am found trading with scammers again i will be on my way out.

I hope this report is taken into consideration. Can provide additional info. Thank you :)

    Interesting to note.

    1. You say you reported a few scammers in your time:
This demonstrates to me you actually know how to use the steamrep search function.

    2. 30-35 mins of negotiation:
So in this time frame there was absolutely no opportunity to use the steamrep search function or check for rep or particulars?

    3. "Got carried away":
Seeing that a burning samureye goes in excess of $1000 in dollar value and you had the necessary experience and timeframe to do all the background checks, 'getting carried away' seems a mute excuse. You had 30min-35min. If anything the 'excitement' might last 10min before you actually start thinking about the safety aspect of such a high dollar trade. Not many traders get the opportunity to trade for a high price item such as this.

And since you "wanted the hat for such a long time", wouldn't you want this to be a somewhat clean and legitimate experience? Today with scammers, phishers, account hackers, it is always prudent to check steamrep to see if the account had any active reports on it. This you do know. Funny how on this occasion, especially with such a god tier hat (to which steamrep is used most effectively), this knowledge disappeared.

I see many of your claims paradoxical to the actual action of you conducting the trade.

It's a shame, this was the one previously owned by me.

Yes, i do use steam rep a lot. But most of the time they include trades like dealing with cash or if someone sends me a friend request on steam. I normally check their steam-rep before adding any person. This was a time i was in a trade server and i found this guy trading some good hats. He seemed to be a good person initially but later yesterday i came to know that i actually got this hat from a scammer. This was one of the very few occasions that i forgot about checking steam-rep which was huge stupidity on my part. I disagree that my claims are paradoxical. It was a human error from my side. I ended up paying 34 Earbuds for this hat which comes to an value excess of 1100$ and i never put this thing on trade. I own a lot of good valued unusuals and most of those i've got them from good people by trading on sourceops, outpost, tf2tp etc. I am around here for a long time now and i rely on hard work.

I can understand that you owned this hat and it went to a scammer. I am also ready to trade this hat. I leave the decision to you whether want to remove the tag or not. It was a complete carelessness and lack of awareness from my part. I once again apologize for my conduct. I hope you take a fair decision. I will make sure this thing never happens again.

Me owning this hat is irrelevant, it was merely side comment, it was last year.

If you refer our Steamrep FAQ, this covers both cash and trades with a scammer. You have also attached a $$ value to the 34 buds, so in essence it is does not matter if it was dealing in cash or item trades. It equates to a cash value. So either way, especially in a transaction of this magnitude, you should be using Steamrep.

    http://forums.steamrep.com/pages/faq/

You have effectively confirmed to this scammer that his tag does not prevent him from moving his items. There are no repercussions to his previous actions. He has managed to liquidise a burning samur eye into ridiculously easy to move buds, putting $$ back into his pocket. It is dumbfounding that you did not use Steamrep, 34 buds is a value in excess of $1100 as you said. You have fundamentally transferred ~$1100 to this individual and you still overlooked checking Steamrep?

Regard this post as your first offense warning involving an item trade of a high value item with a scammer. If this happens again, it will be a permanent CAUTION tag. There is a close proximity to a cash transaction but I will play out this verdict in the descriptive sense of our policy.

Do not do this again. Tag has been removed. Good luck.
