I guess it's better to sacrifice a bit of my money to save other's money... Anywho, the fellow went by the name Happy001^^. He had been on my friends list for a while. I think I had traded him in the past for other items. Well, he approached me with an offer on my Bill's Hat. It was painted Team Spirit and it was my pride. He put up sixty bucks as an offer. That was a little sketchy to me. It was quite a high offer. I figured: if he wanted it for that much, he can feel free to take it for that much. Cautious from my previous scamming mishap, I gave him a good, hard, look-down. I asked him some questions, "how do you plan getting this money to me", "have you got any positive reputation", "what's the email you use for PayPal", etc. I checked him on Steam Rep and he had no negative reputation. Something that raised a little red flag was when he asked "the money can go to steam?" As if he hasn't traded with money before. I informed him you can't make Steam Fund transactions, and we carried on. I gave him my PayPal email and he claims to have sent the funds to me. I noticed I hadn't received any payment in PayPal. That alarmed me slightly, but I hadn't yet given him the Bill's. I brought this up to him and he told me the funds were indeed spent and that, because it was a weekend, PayPal would not pass the funds over. That sounded a bit suspicious, so I did a bit of research. Apparently, yes: PayPal does not complete transactions on weekends. This being my first trade with PayPal, I wasn't aware of how it worked. He said if the money transaction hadn't worked, he would retrade me. That reassured me a bit, but I was still suspicious. I asked if he could wait until Monday when the funds would supposedly arrive, and he responded with no, as I could possibly scam him. I accepted it, because I am an idiot, and gave him a final warning. I gave him a tag on my friends list as "Possible Scammer". I left for a bit to do something called "Real Life" and came back to notice the Possible Scammer tag on my friends list was gone. I was shocked as hell. That meant he unfriended me, and I assumed the worst. Because Momma didn't raise no fool, I kept the chat window open after we had traded and clicked on his name and avatar in the top left. I went red with fury and concern as I noticed something. His name and avatar were completely different from the last time I saw him. His new name was You[Noob] and his avatar was no longer a devlish yellow smiley face on a black background. It was now a girl/woman taking a picture of herself. This was a huge cause for alarm, so Super Sleuth Chowder put on his fedora and took out his magnifying glass to see if he could scope out some clues. I started by checking his backpack. Not a single Bill's Hat inside. It's fine. Just a glitch not showing he had gotten it yet. It once happened to me when I bought an Idiot Box. I then checked comments on his profile. Awfully specific reputation comments existed. Awfully specific comments involving saying he's not a scammer and thanking him for money. The specificness was alarming, so I checked some of the profiles of those commentors. I checked backpacks which seemed to be legitimate and some reputation comments left by other traders. There's no way those profiles could be alts of Happy001^^. No one man would go through the trouble of doing all that to steal ten dollars. Well... One might... Next, I took to friending the people who left the comments and interrogating asking them a few questions. I've gotten to one so far who goes by the name Buy>Robots destroyed (http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198068797211/) and the chat log is shown below. He was quite rude, but rude doesn't mean scammer. I then went to a fellow who left a comment thanking Happy for money. The comment was left around 1 o'clock of the same day I traded away my Bill's. I had traded Happy around 11 o'clock of that day. Boy. So, I checked him out. His name's You are s¤ Funny^^ (http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198046765779) Profile made a month before Happy, played same games as him, played TF2 for 300 hours, had several groups... Seemed convincing enough. I checked his backpack and saw something that absolutely horrified me. A Team Spirit Bill's Hat at the dead top of his backpack. It's fine! No cause for alarm! A pure coincidence! I tried reassuring myself. I checked the fellows backpack on backpack.tf (http://backpack.tf/profiles/76561198046765779) which provides a convenient history of items in one's backpack. I checked the Bill's Hat's history and nearly threw up. (http://backpack.tf/item/211126616) That hat was owned by me. That meant that Happy had traded my Bill's Hat to Funny. I checked Happy's current backpack and compared it with his Backpack's history. He hadn't gotten a single thing out of the trade. He gave it away for free. Upon inspection of Happy's friends list once again, I had noticed that Happy and Funny had been friends since Happy made his account. That was EXTREMELY suspicious. Could Happy be Funny's alt? I mean, Funny has more items and plays the same games as Happy... God... Well, I'm an idiot, and below are some screenshots and chatlogs as proof. Further proof may come along as I converse with his friends. Thank you gents for your time, and I hope this fellow gets whatever it is that he deserves. -ChowderBowl Screenshots: Chatlogs: Code: Never tell your password to anyone. Right, apparently the fellow's already been marked. http://steamrep.com/search?q=76561198049520383 Just thought I'd bring that up so we could close this up, or whatever. Especially seeing how this is more than a month old.
