    - Picture of chat: I didn't realize I was being scammed until he logged off, but here is the end of the chat confirming he received my PayPal payment: http://i.imgur.com/fIVSknv.png
    - Trade window had already been closed, but here is confirmation from my Backpack history: http://i.imgur.com/nRs907z.png

    Description:
King posted on TF2 Outpost advertising a Haunted Ghosts Vintage Merryweather: http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/11836075
At the time, I did not notice that his name was not in the item's history. This should have been a warning sign, but I was lazy and didn't check.
We successfully traded for PayPal funds this afternoon.
Afterward, I checked the listings for the hat/effect on TF2 Outpost to gauge a good selling point. I noticed right away that someone else was selling another Merryweather with the same level as me, and when I checked its item history, I showed up as the most recent owner, the clear sign of a dupe.
What's more, the original Merryweather is still on page 6 of the original owner's backpack, as seen here: http://www.tf2outpost.com/backpack/76561198041733707
I do not condone duping so I've taken the listing off the market and issued a chargeback since this is a clear scam. Figured the next logical step would be to report him.

Edit: I can't chargeback because he requested I send it as a payment for a friend/family member. So I'm out $100 with this duped hat. Any ideas? -_-

As I said on your Reddit post, you CANNOT issue a chargeback because it a gross misuse of Paypal's policy. The ONLY time you can chargeback is if you did NOT receive the item. Period. At no other time can you do a chargeback or you will be marked as a scammer.

I do not see intent to scam here. He may not have even know the hat was duped- many users don't. However, I will archive this for future reference. Thank you for the report.

    Just to add to this:

If you have evidence the owner knowingly lying to you about the duped nature of the hat, you might have an argument for reporting him.

Yet, owning/reselling items that have been duplicated are not usually a malicious or scamming act. Items get duplicated for reasons such as the owner getting hijacked somehow and Steam Support recovering the items for them. It is only in rare cases that the item is duped through a bug or fraud, but you'd need evidence the person themselves did the duplication.

If you have concerns about duplicated items, definitely do deeper research for the next purchase, but for the most part it's not typically a major deal (though for some buyers it can affect the value).

For now this is closed as Invalid, but if you find some evidence that the owner lied to you or committed fraud, please report it again.

As HelenAngel said, do not pursue a chargeback if you received the items (and even then, not unless you tried to work with the seller directly). Such acts could affect your reputation.
