Any official update on this?
Not yet. As soon as there is one, you'll be the first to know.
Sorry for the wait, but were back logged with appeals and reports and we're prioritising those OCR everything else.
We really do need people to run the official plugin to be affiliated with SteamRep. Since you wrote this plugin yourself, we might be able to make an exception in your case, though.
We have some concerns about the naming of your plugin ("redux" implies it's a replacement) but for the most part what I've seen of your plugin looks nifty.
I wrote my version primarily because of problems in the official one. It does the same thing as the official version, with the added trade ban/trade probation handling.
When a plugin is written that improves upon an original on AlliedModders, (Redux) is often added to the name. It doesn't mean that it's a replacement; rather, it's an improvement.
It may make sense in your circles to use that terminology, but outside of that context, it gives the wrong impression that it's an official replacement (just by the definition of the word redux). In a world where scammers are frequently trying to muddy the waters and providing malicious downloads, etc, it helps a lot if people on the same side work to reduce confusion.
That's understandable. What do you think would be a more appropriate name, though?
Banning IP addresses generally is not a good idea. Some people(actually most of people who use commercial providers) are on dynamic IPs and banning scammer by IP will cause intermittent problems for clean folks who happen to be in the same DHCP pool of the provider.
In order to become collateral damage, someone would have to:
1. He assigned the same IP address as a tagged scammer who joined our servers,
2. Play TF2 and be a trader
3. Join our servers
You can see that all 3 of the above being true are very unlikely. In the unlikely event that this happens, we're more than willing to look into it and unban the IP address if we decide in their favor.
hmm, chances are actually high that that happens a couple times in a year. Due that being a "local" join of ppl on a particular server. The higher the distance from the server, the lower the likelihood of not being a alt.
Some people are okay with the risk of false positives on their servers to keep scammers off of them.
We actually have a feature (in the works) in the plugin API where the server can ban the scammer if that IP address was used recently by a marked scammer anywhere in the (participating) community. This is to prevent someone scamming on their main account (or hijacking an account) and then quickly trying to use a new alt account to continue to scam or sell those stolen items. Scammer alts are probably one of the biggest challenges facing Steam currently. We're playing the world's biggest game of whack-a-mole.
I think if the name used "Unofficial" (or at least prominently in the thread) then that would be preferable to the current situation. As the code looks really nice, there may be room to eventually ask you about inheriting some of it for the official plugin.
I'll take you to Chuck E Cheese and we can play whack-a-mole together, Mattie! Treat's on me!!!
I bolded the "unofficial" part of it.
Updated the original post and subject to reflect the merge of Hooded Alliance into FirePowered Gaming.
what are the current roles now after the merge? Owner, head admins etc. If McKay can answer about the relevant changes, that would be handy.
FirePowered has 6 different admin levels.
Head Admin (owner), root access globally
Senior Admin, global admin access + forums
Game Admin, admin access on game servers only
Game Moderator, limited admin access on game servers only
Trade Admin, admin access on trade servers only (these are the former THA admins)
Trade Moderator, limited admin access on trade servers only (these are the former THA moderators)
There's a list of who's in what group here.
