    Q & A

    2) How old are you, what city and area do you live in?

I’m 17 Years Old and I live near Minneapolis, Minnesota.

    3) Please tell us a bit about yourself (job, school, hobbies, other)?

My biggest hobby is FIRST Robotics. It’s a STEM educational program where a team is presented with a challenge and must build a fully functioning robot in six weeks. There’s a lot of stress, and drama (seeing as we’re all high schoolers), but things usually work out. I’m one of four captains on the team. I take care of Marketing and funding for our team. This usually means calling corporate businesses to establish ideal days for a face-to-face meeting.

Besides Robotics I am also enrolled in ‘Engineering Applications 2’, a class where a team of students must build a Supermileage car. It is a program that is sponsored by MTEEA (Minnesota Technology And Engineering Educators Association). The goal is to design, fund, and construct a car that has 900+ Miles Per Gallon. We are given two terms (out of a 4 term year) to do this before we are brought to our competition and compete against other schools. I do marketing in this, as well.

Communication is a huge factor in both of these programs and it’s something that I’ve improved upon and allows me to take leadership positions. I’m very comfortable speaking to people whether it be via text or voice. Because I’ve taken a leadership position I’ve learned how to deal with situations no matter how uncomfortable they may be.

    4) Why do you want to be an SR mod?

I want to be an SR Mod because I see how many reports there are that go unanswered. I would really love to help the community by being able to help users provide the necessary information and mark the case as ready to review. I try to help where I can, currently, but I try not to overstep my bounds as a regular community member. I’ve always loved helping the community in any way, it's how I got started as a moderator in a trading server and I've kept going since then.

    5) How much time can you donate to SR per week?

20 hours at a minimum (Just a bit less than 3 hours a day). I don't have much free time during classes at school but I have plenty of time at home due to doing and finishing assignments in class. Like most people I will be able to contribute more time on days off of school and on the weekends.

    6) Do you have any prior admin experience, or similar, and please elaborate?

Yes, I do. I was a staff member at Harpoon Gaming for over a year. I had spent the last few months of mine there as a Head Admin and Server Manager. In this time I was also given a green shield which can last be seen on October 14th, 2014. I took charge of dealing with public concerns, listening to server requests, and helping set up guidelines for our users to follow.

In addition to this I am also currently running my own trading community. It’s still fairly small (~500 Members), but it is something I enjoy doing very much. It has been around for about 5 months and is continuing to grow. I definitely wouldn’t say that it can compare to partner or associate communities, but it is definitely something that has given me experience.

I am also a Community Moderator on the Official Chucklefish Games Forums. I’ve had the position since February 9th, 2015. The main duty of moderators on those forums are to keep everyone calm and prevent harassment against users. Something we try to do is keep transparency in our community, rarely deleting threads unless it’s absolutely needed (over the line harassment, spam, etc). We try to let all users voice their opinion, positive or negative, all we request is that it is kept civil.

    7) What do you foresee as challenges as an SR mod?

Something I see as a challenge as an SR mod is going through and marking which reports are ready to be reviewed or need more information. I tend to sometimes be too nice to users and have a hard time of drawing that line of ‘You can’t cross this’. Thankfully I’ve been working on improving this and I believe I’m doing better.

    8) Can you accept the fact that you must enforce per SR rules and guidelines?

    Yes, I do.

    9) Do you feel you will have any issues denying appeals or accepting reports?

No, I do not. I would be very happy to help with this in any way that would be required.

    10) Do you handle instruction and direction well?

Yes, I try my best to take notes for myself and prioritize what needs to be done. I admit sometimes I can get a bit off task, but I’ll always make sure to get the job done by the end of the day.

    11) What do you feel are your personal shortcomings or attributes you can improve on?

I sometimes have a hard time putting my foot down and being blunt about things. I mentioned this earlier and I feel as though I am improving how I handle it (and can continue improving with the help of SR Staff).

In a bit of a contrast to being a bit reluctant to slam down the hammer on users I’ve also had some issues in the past of getting a bit too heated over topics. I admit that this is something that definitely needs more improvement, and I believe it has been. I recently started a new medication (2-3 months ago?) and one side effect is reducing stress/calming me down. That has helped me tremendously to stay calm when dealing with users who are over the top. I’m not perfect, though, and still have more work to do in this field.

    12) What contributions do you believe you will be able to make to SR?

I believe that I will be able to contribute to the workflow and clean up reports by marking which ones are ready for review, which are invalid, or need more evidence. If a job comes up and needs someone to do it I’ll step up and learn how to do it. Learning a new skill and being able to put it to practice is a favorite thing of mine to do.

    13) Do you have any interest in eventually becoming an SR Admin? If so, what kinds of things would you like to do? (Example- community relations, appeals, scam reports, etc.)

Possibly, though this is not something I would say is my ‘end goal’. My main reason for applying is to help with the backlog of reports and prep them for the admins to make decisions on. If I did become an admin, however, I would be very interested in helping with community relations above reports/appeals. I would love to be able to apply this skill here at SteamRep.

    14) Please list all alternate Steam Accounts by their ID64.

I agree to the Code of Conduct and to follow the Do’s and Dont’s

    16) Have you read the Duties of SR Moderators post and understand it?

I have read it thoroughly and understand the requirements.

    17) (If applicable) List Steam trading communities you are / have been active on and in what capacity (user, mod, admin), also give a link to the account(s) there.

The fact that you're 17 years old will likely not get you Moderator on Steam rep. The minimum age is 20+.

Are you kidding? Where did you even hear that? Don't make posts like these unless you have sources.

    @Flying Anonymoose
We recently decided to have a minimum age of 18 and we've updated the application form to reflect that. We are exploring options to lower that requirement, but there are certain barriers we need to carefully examine.

This looks like a well-written application thought. I would encourage you to re-apply in the future.
