1. SteamRep is shutting down at the end of 2024. See announcement.

How many appeals were there for hijacked accounts that didn't have a steam support ticket?

I'm curious how many cases there were with this scenario. From what I've read, if you don't have the communication from your steam support ticket as evidence your appeal won't ever be successful. Except the support ticket gets deleted a few weeks after the case is resolved. So unless the user had the foresight to make a screenshot of the communication, and it had to be in Steam client (I think), and the window had to be full screen or whatever, there would be no chance of a successful appeal?

I'm just wondering how many innocent victims could have been tagged as scammers. Years ago when the whole phishing/hijacking thing started with a bang and there were victims left and right, scammers must have had a field day scamming others using the victims' accounts. I have a feeling very few victims would bother to take notes and screenshots during the recovery process and save it on their hard drives for years and years just in case.

Is it very possible there's a not insignificant number of innocent people who were unjustly tagged because of hijacking and because they had no way to recover that support ticket they were screwed?

No clue, you are free to browse all the appeals and find out how many were denied due to lack of evidence of an actual hijacking if you like, they are public after all. I know from many of those same appeals you speak of with claims of hijackings; evidence (support ticket or not) did not support their claims, you might want to count those too while you are at it. I'm genuinely curious so post back if you do.

Ironically enough, I am one of those people that got hijacked back in 2012 and got banned on SteamRep, tried to appeal 6 years later but I did not really have any evidence left. I would have tried to appeal one last time if I knew about SR shutting down a bit earlier.
