    What are your community's policies on scamming & scamming-related activities?
    Scammers are not allowed to connect to the server. We do not condone scamming of any sort. Many of the staff members are/were traders and know how to deal with reports regarding scammers along with knowing what to look for when confronting one and knowing how to deal with them.​

    API usage:

    Yes, all trade servers run a modified version of Dr.Mckay’s API. The modifications are just to skip writing player information to a file and instead keep it in memory. We have no other sites/servers.​

    Why does your community wish to exchange banners and become a Friend of SteamRep?

    For a while now, NGS has operated using SteamRep’s API and other moderation plugins/applications, committing to the philosophy of protecting players from instances of scamming, theft, and other forms of economic dishonesty. We’ve not only been strongly opposed to scamming and other forms of theft, but we’ve also held a sincere gratitude towards the services provided by SteamRep. After the most recent reorganization in our community, we’ve thought long and hard about writing up an application and being a part of SteamRep (at least in an official sense).

    We strongly believe that we are now in a position where we can form an indispensable relationship with SteamRep. We believe that the information that SteamRep uses within its services can provide NGS with a far greater ability to moderate our servers and forums accordingly. With this friendship, NGS can provide SteamRep with both an active community and staff able to assist in maintaining a trustworthy and safe environment for new and veteran traders.​

    Tell us more about your community:

    Neogenesis Network has been around for two years. NGS came to be after inheriting GDN (Grand Noddle Army) roughly three years ago. Since then, the primary goal of NGS was to create a community representing the people that made it up. NGS is primarily centered around Team Fortress 2, Minecraft, and the communities within it. NGS has plans to expand into other communities but in its current state, it is mainly TF2 trading.​

    Questions or Comments:

    We have VIP and Donor perks, none of which include administrative powers in their packages. Ban appeals are handled through a basic structure on our forums that allows our Marketing team to address them separately of admin/moderator intervention. We pride ourselves in a separation of powers between different branches, and as such, have processes in place that prevent any particular branch of staff from abusing any possible friendships or partnerships we pursue.

    Just wanted to give you a heads up, I've recently modified our SteamRep plugin (a fork of Dr. Mckay's SteamRep Checker Redux) to include Backpack.tf user api integration. The reasoning behind this is to possibly include TF2 trade rep info in a chat tag or similar. Because Backpack.tf's User Info API aggregates a lot of data at once, including SteamRep bans, Valve's trade caution/bans, and a moderated rep system, we have added Backpack.tf as an additional source of truth.

    We are still making an additional request to SteamRep in order to provide SteamRep with user info and help track player movement. You may have a gap in the data as the additional request was added in a follow-up version on top of me being a bit dumb and messing up the flow of logic a bit before. My thinking at the time of writing is that we will lean on SteamRep API in addition to Backpack.tf so we can still have the ignore-clan-tags functionality of the plugin as well.

    Solved in DMs, the default value for some of the ConVars in our version is set to true in order to send SR info while Dr. McKay's is set to false. We are sending SR info in an additonal request that McKay's plugin doesn't. View commit log at links above for more info.

    Can you please provide documentation to demonstrate you receive 1000 or more active members in your community? While the definition of "member" is a little vague and open-ended, we generally do not consider Steam group membership or unique server connections to qualify as "active members".

    The numbers are within the 600 to 1000 range we gave. Go ahead and take a look at player counts over time, regulars/active members are not listed as a separate category, though that may be added if need be. Time spent on the server may be the best metric, the average time being ~20-30 minutes.

    Where in those links do you see 1000 active members? I see, at best, 350 "users" in your Discord (including inactive, bots, etc), and a peak of 815 unique connections on your collective server cluster.

    We composited both counts into 1. That is, 600-1000 is combined Discord and TF2. It can be assumed that of all counts, approximately 80% of TF2 server count and 40% of Discord members are active at any given day, resulting in approximately 600-1000 throughout the day. Definitely nowhere near the size of other groups, but size has never been our goal.

    If I do the math a little further and find our absolute lower bound at the current time, it will be as such:
    Code:
    TF2: Lowest in the last 30 days was 382 unique connections. Let's use 375 to round things off.
    Discord: Lowest online member count since March of 2018 looks like 27 "users" from scrubbing across Carbon's graph, most probably during some night. Let's use 25 "users" and say that we maintained only those 25 "users" throughout the day.
    
    For a lower bound, I will consider only 40% of TF2's count as active members and 10% of Discord's "users" as active users.
    
    This results at our absolute lower bound across any given day being 375 * 0.4 + 25 * 0.1 = 152.5 or at least ~150 actual users in a day that trust us to provide them with a scam-free and stress-free experience.
    A good opportunity to introspect aside, with that absolute lower bound, our number of 600-1000 is definitely embellished and would be something like 150-300. However, we'll respect any decision made by you as to whether the numbers and percentages I've used to represent the absolute lower bound are accurate or even realistic to what happens day-to-day.

    Taking a look at the history of our analytics, I can find several moments where our TF2 server counts alone approached or exceeded 1000 unique connections, which we can use with the 80% TF2 - 40% Discord average to meet or possibly even exceed 1000 we gave on the application. On the Player Analytics page, edit the range at the top right to before this application was posted, or numbers we would have used at the time we posted. We see several times that we approach 950+ and exceed 1000 at least once in our TF2 server alone, so about 800 active members. Combine that with 40% of Discord, which would have been between 250 and 300 members at the time and we get 920 players served, if not more.

    Numbers from now would be closer to the 600 bound of the range we gave, but most probably not lower.

    A bound using our current numbers would be 400-900, which may be exceeded on weekends.

    Taking a look at the requirements for Friend community, I don't believe our current numbers meet the 1000 active members requirement. However, we are still interested in Friend community, and it is up to your discretion. We would still very much like to be a Friend community and provide for our players in as many ways as possible.

    You're saying that your unique server connections and Discord members are mutually exclusive - that people in Discord never connect to your server - so you're adding them together?

    That's a good point, they are obviously not mutually exclusive, maybe an overlap of 60% Discord "users" as an educated guess from Carbon's Gaming Users graph. For those numbers, I'm not sure. While there are members of the Discord that don't join the TF2 servers, there is certainly overlap.

    I think a good metric for that would be using a Discord bot such as TimePlayed and comparing the numbers against those that are on our TF2 server. One thing to note is that people would be hard-pressed to participate on the Discord and TF2 servers concurrently, and would have to be switching between both and using only one at a time. While that doesn't count them as mutually exclusive groups, it is two different mediums that we moderate and protect to make our users' lives as safe as possible.

    I'm sorry to say this, but we have decided not to move forward with your community application.

    In the past few weeks, we did discuss whether to make an exception to the rule for your community, due to the difficulty in meeting that requirement with a TF2 server cluster, but there was not enough support for the idea and it went against the very spirit of the rule. If our requirements change, or you manage to meet them in the future, feel free to apply again.
