So, I was curious about raffles because I was interested in starting my own raffle. As I just recently won my own copy of a triple A game. I was thinking about doing a raffle. I wanted to see whether I could get any sort of support, like from steam.rep to show I was legitimate and I wasn't a scammer.

Is there a way to tell a raffle is legitimate or is it at your own risk?

Anyway, you can't see the item because I haven't actually got it yet. A long story.

    Thanks,

We wont make you green tagged for such, no. Raffles have their own problems with their legitimacy, we get pretty often complaints about raffles, and the problems around it are:
    - Fake raffle: never intended to give the prize to anybody, but recieving items. This is regarded a scam.
    - Fake giving stuff to a alt account or "friend", the raffle is rigged then. Also regarded a scam.
    - The randomizing of the winner number is often very questionable, and impairs provability of being truly random, and proof that the first number drawn is used (instead of running the randomizer 20x to get a number more liked, and only proof of that shown, and with the complete the scope of the raffle group (instead of a subset thereof).

If its a free raffle, go to http://tf2r.com/

Raffles are inherently unsafe, and unless you are very confident of the person(s) who are organizing them, my advice is steer clear.

That isn't to say there are not many legitimate raffle about, I know of people who conduct some honestly, and I occasionally do the odd small one, however in general I would recommend you treat them all with a great deal of caution.

personal raffles are not safe... no matter who says they are ok and trusted etc etc...seen too many people get some entry fee's and run. On WickedAfterlife servers we run a customized setup all logged and only ran by Admins,Mod's and hand picked Tier2 VIP's whom have access to it. We do NOT allowed regular users to run them off our servers for many reasons. If you wish to enter some feel free to come check em out - its a very cool theatrical experience we've got setup for them.
I don't recommend tf2r mostly as it takes you out of the game and the game experience - I would rather try to keep people involved with the game and IN the game vs doing something thru another site - you may as well just not even play if you do that.
