What happened? Description:

I have not played TF2 in a year ish now, not been on steam in a while either to be honest, but I have started pc gaming again recently and a few days in I receive a friend request from the accused user asking to trade. Bearing in mind I had not traded in a long long time, so had no current offers up.

Now though I had not played the game in a while, I still remembered how to trade, specifically how to spot shifty behavior and avoid possible scams. Straight away I notice that he keeps suggesting this "trading" site, tf2misty.com which I was first worried to click on, but whe I did it looked odd. I tried to find out more about the site by googling it, and found another report involving it, about scamming. The FAQ section on the site also required a log in, which I found odd.

After many attempts of trying to get me to use the site, he sends a link to another site, Itemfloat.com, where I found a similar situation. After googling I found a reddit post on a csgo subreddit, which mentioned that the site was fake. Upon entering the site I also found that most features required a sign in.

Still uncertain, I asked the accused to use various other sites, such as Bazaar.tf and tf2outpost , (which i only recently found out was shut down, damn, I used to use it). I was suspicious when he posted an image of the failed site, but realized that that was because the site was shut down.

I am certain that these sites are sites which have a fake steam log in which allow them to have access to your account and items.​
