Hello Steamrep,

First of all, I wanted to mention i greatly appreciate everything you guys do. I am reaching out as i believe i am a victim of a scammer on Reddit. Unfortunately, I did not follow the rules (used paypal F&F for the first time instead of goods & services) but i wanted to bring this to your attention just so the community is aware.

To give some background, I have never purchased anything via hardwareswap,but have had success in r/golfclassifieds. I recently posted a few days ago in search for a 3700x/3800x, 3600mhz ram and b450/X570 mobo. A reddit user whom just got suspended (/u/seaofthi201) messaged me via reddit. At the time, i had looked at the ban list and could not find him but it seems like hes banned on several subreddits and was actually on the hardware list as a potential scammer. He ended up offering a 3700x and a Asus B450-F Strix and included a real-time screenshot of the products and his reddit handle. We agreed on a price but he pushed heavily for Paypal F&F. I had never paid anyone via Paypal F&F, but he seemed genuine as we talked for almost the entire day and he even gave me advices on whether i should buy a 3700x or a 3800x. He even added me on steam to show me his "confirmed trades". At the time, i thought that was a valid way to prove his legitimacy. Furthermore, i finally went against my gut and ended up sending him the agreed upon amount via Paypal F&F. Soon after the payment, on 5/15 he blocked me from Steam and changed his name to Where Eagles Dare.

The next morning, i woke up with a bad feeling and went all out to figure out if he is a potential scammer. It did not look good for me as he was on a scammer list as a potential scammer because of forcing Paypal F&F. I disputed the Paypal transaction as unauthorized to see what would happen. He reached out saying he was tired from work the day before, and he would ship once the dispute was closed. Furthermore, i found out a fellow reddit users: /u/HerSonata had a similar post to mine and she had updated saying she had purchased a 2070 Super from /u/seaofthi201. I reached out to her to see her experience but luckily, she was smart and had sent the agreed upon amount via Paypal G&S. After i shared my experience with her, she said she reached out to him to ask for an update on shipping. /u/seaofthi201 then responded by refunding the initial Paypal G&S and asked for F&F. She expressed her concerns with him about paying with F&F and they came to an agreement. She would pay as Paypal G&S and pay the difference in fees with Paypal F&F. He then said he would ship the 2070 super after work. Both our transactions occurred between 5/12-5/13. We both came to the conclusion that he may be kind of sketchy, but he might actually not be a scammer.

However, fast forward to today (5/14)- this morning i tried to message him for an update and saw that his reddit account has been suspended. In addition, he has removed me as a friend from Steam and blocked me. I emailed him and he said he would ship the cpu/mobo after work. I then caught up with /u/HerSonata to see how things were going on her end when we both realized... he had given us different paypal addresses to send the money to.

We were unsure whether to wait or not but decided it was the right thing for the community to contact the mods. Ultimately, i know i am out of the money i sold him as i did not follow the rules and went against my gut. We are just hoping this doesn't happen to others of our community since it seems like this guy will just create new accounts and most likely do this to others. This guy is using his steam to trick others to thinking he is reputable. He has not shipped any of the items and stopped all communication.
