    Scam Report

Report Type: [Other] Any other fraudulent behavior
Virtual item type involved: [Other] Other game items

    Accused profile: 76561198034665224

    Victim profile: 76561198206173084

    What happened? Description:
A user going by the name of "I TAE" (link to profile : https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198295168800) messaged me stating that I was accidentally reported for item duping, and that my account would get deleted if I was not able to confirm with a steam admin that I did not dupe my items. He followed through, sending me a link to the profile I have entered in the accused above, claiming he was a steam admin I needed to confirm that I did not dupe my items. The accused was obviously not a steam admin, lacking the steam moderator badge that is present on every steam admin, and was not in the list of moderators and steam devs/staff. I then messaged "I TAE" back, stating that he was not a moderator and that he possibly could not resolve this "issue". He continued persist on me adding him and confirming, I declined, with my reasons - at this point, "I TAE" refused to respond to messages, and the URL of the profile (Qenoxis | VF) he linked was quickly changed - this can be proved by the different URL that is shown in the chat screenshot and the current user's URL.

I am unsure as to when I had added the user "I TAE" as a friend on steam - I believe that I added him after playing with him in Team Fortress 2. It may be possible that his account may have been hijacked by someone that is behind this scam attempt.

As I was curious, I looked upon google this scenario, and unsurprisingly, this method had be repeated before on various other users in an attempt to scam them of their items or even their accounts.

I input the information of the profile that "I TAE" had sent me, as it seemed to me that he was the person behind this scam attempt, but the information of "I TAE" can be attached if need be.

(I will leave the steam chat window open, just in case anything else from it is required)

    I TAE:
    hey
i need tot ell you something

    [19:28]
    alaskadonuts:
    ?

    [19:31]
    I TAE:
i accidentally reported you to the steam admin for having a duped items instead of my friend in steam who scammed me i am very sorry

    [19:31]
    alaskadonuts:
    oof
    uh, it's probably fine
is it possible to cancel reports?

    [19:32]
    I TAE:
And the main reason why i message you its because the steam admin dude wants you to confirm that i accidentally reported you and you are not involve of those mistake report issue so that my report will not be process and your account will not be deleted permanently in steam

    [19:32]
    alaskadonuts:
    huh, alright
so how can i really "confirm"?

    [19:33]
    I TAE:
Because someone trying to scam me and he have duped items and he have the same profile on your account

    [19:33]
    alaskadonuts:
do you have a link to his profile by any chance?

    [19:34]
    I TAE:
Add the steam admin and tell him it was a mistake report and you are not involve of it

Add that steam admin and tell that it was a mistake
    did you add him now?

    [19:37]
    alaskadonuts:
he doesn't seem to be an admin
quick search on steamrep shows it

    [19:37]
    I TAE:
just add him he will hep you fix this issue

    [19:37]
    alaskadonuts:
and he's not on this list either
    Steam Community :: Moderators

    [19:38]
    I TAE:
    that is not necessary

    [19:39]
    alaskadonuts:
it is, if it's something to do with a deletion of someone's account that's already spent a fair amount of money on this platform already

    [19:39]
    I TAE:
thats why add him so he will help you fix this issue

    [19:40]
    alaskadonuts:
but he isn't a moderator, i don't see how adding a user that has no power over moderation in steam will be able to fix a problem like this
if it can be solved by any user in steam, i'd rather trust an issue like this to an actual steam moderator that is listed on their site
no company would want to lose a loyal customer over a single report, and i've never even heard of accounts getting deleted over item duping on steam
if they really wanted to find out if i had duped the items or not, a company like steam would be able to do so with ease
google search about this whole situation comes up with multiple results of this exact scenario, where you'll just get the "admin" to "check" my items to see if they are duped or not - this is what you were trying to do, correct?
the most valve does with accounts that have duped items is delete the items and/or ban the account that duped it
don't think you're going anywhere, both your accounts are going to get reported, what a shame to let your 8-year-old profile with hundreds of trades made potentially banned

I see nothing here against this user that suggests they were guilty of any wrong doing.
Just because someone said to talk to them doesn't mean they were involved or could be - may have been a setup for all we know.
You should be reporting the FIRST User you were involved with anyway not this user.
Make sure you've reported that user to Valve - its likely they were hijacked which we do not review hijacking reports here.
