And what exactly is the difference between losing real money and losing virtual items that are worth real money?

There's a reason why there's a page like a steamrep. Steam doesnt support these trades because they would loose potential money. Real money has an actual value where as virtual items have a value that is imagined by whoever sells the item on the market. And using logic, give anyone an option; 100 eur cash in-hand or a virtual item that has been valued at 100 by users playing a computer game.

And who values the piece of paper given to you that has the number 100 written on it?

Just because there are no firm rules set in the law regarding virtual items theft doesnt mean it's not stealing. Easily comparable to lifting from a super market. And i'm pretty sure you're familiar with steam trade ban system. I bet what you're going for here is to get the account banned whilst the items are not there. And return them after the ban lifts. Hope you have a good life thief.
