What happened? Description:

The user, "my gaming edge," has attempted to scam me of my TF2 item through a middleman scam. On July 24th, this user has added me through Steam. It wasn't until July 25th that he started messaging me. He told me that he wanted to buy my Australium Scattergun with cash through marketplace.tf by doing a "secure deposit" to a bot, where I'm supposedly required to sign in to the site, log out, then sign back in for the second time. After I do this, a bot will supposedly send me a friend request. What was strange, however, was how when I told him that I've never heard of this feature all, especially since how nothing of the sort was mentioned the site, scrap.tf, its affiliated site, or anywhere on the Internet. The response he gave was a simple, "yeah its a beta feature idk." After that, he immediately asked me if I had added the bot yet, when I clearly haven't logged out of the site, and yet, I've already received a friend request from "Marketplace.tf | Bot 53." Already, I was suspicious of this, since not only was this method unheard of and not talked about, but how could he know this, and why has the bot already sent me a friend request? I eventually asked him if he can just simply buy the item through a listing, but he ended up saying "cos ppl will autobuy it and i kinda want this specific one cos my friend got it in a drop." I don't know about the part where people will supposedly autobuy it, since if I simply don't make it the cheapest listing, then people are far less likely to "autobuy it." In response, I accidentally said that the most recent sell was about 10 days ago, when I was referring to a Killstreak Australium Scattergun, rather than a normal one (Second to last screenshot). I'm kind of glad I didn't correct myself though, because he ended up giving me a completely uncertain answer with a "idk man i just wanna stay safe ive been chasing after this for a few ppl," "has the bot added u yet tho," and a "cos igtg 2 school soon." Not only was he completely dodging the question with a completely ridiculous answer of "I just wanna stay safe," but he also said that he has been chasing after this scattergun for a few people, rather than just one friend. At this point, I completely believe that he was trying to scam me instead, for not only was he trying to utilize a suspicious and unknown method, but he gave extremely suspicious answers and has constantly rushed me with comments marking about how he had to go to school soon, along with repeatedly asking me if I had added the bot yet or not. I told him that I had not added the bot once again, so he suggested that we added "it." I questioned on how can he tell when it comes to finding the correct bot. He ended up telling me that it doesn't really matter on which bot it is, as long as we add the same one. This was, once again, extremely shady, for not was this misinforming in terms of grammar, but it was informing in terms of the concept, for he made it sound like that there was one bot, rather than multiple. He then tells me that I have to deposit the item in order to receive a code and then give the code to him so he could supposedly buy the listing. And yet, there isn't a link for a code anywhere on marketplace.tf. Instead, I decided to check out the bot and saw that there were only 10 items inside the inventory; none of them were valuable in the least bit, and it wasn't friends with Geel, the owner of the site, unlike all of the other bots. Comparing this marketplace.tf bot with another marketplace.tf bot, an actual bot, this one not only didn't have the profile picture, but it was eventually set to Private too. This can be seen after comparing the screenshot for this bot with the very last screenshot. As a result, I pointed out how the bot has very few items and had 0 friends, and as soon as I asked, the bot's account was immediately made private. As this guy was about to supposedly leave, I asked him why he wanted my scattergun in particular so much, so he told me that he wanted it because his friend got it in MvM. So, I asked what his name was, and he told me that it was Jman, who was someone that was on his friends list, but never actually owned the item itself. I told him that he never owned it, but claims that Jman was his Anarchuu's alt, even though Jman already had about 2k hours on CSGO, which is extremely odd. As I continued to interrogate him, he said that he had to leave, so he went offline.

As required, I took screenshots of the chat (the first three screenshots). After he went offline, I decided to block him and unfriend him on Steam, resulting to no more chat logs. The next two pieces evidence (One being a screenshot, while the other is a gif) are recognizing the supposed "Bot." The screenshot shows the profile being set to Private, along with the profile link being available. As for the gif, it proves that this user has sent me the profile link to his alternative account, which is impersonating a marketplace.tf bot, or at least attempting to. The next two screenshots are showing the alternative account's inventory, where there are very few items, along with no valuable items whatsoever, which makes this very hard to believe that this is an actual bot, especially since how it's changed its name multiple times. Unfortunately, I didn't take a screenshot of its empty friends list, but the inventory was enough for me to know. And finally, he has claimed that he has been "chasing this scattergun for months," even though it was dropped on June 22nd, according to the next gif I will be providing. It may be blurry, but it can be read (A screenshot will still be provided anyways). Oh, and just for safe measures, for whatever the case may be, I will also be providing a screenshot of my item on the Steam Community Market to prove that it hasn't been tampered in any way possible.
