What happened? Description:

Attempted to a middleman-impersonation scam. As an existing steam friend, known to have been friendly, he asked me whether my knife was up for trade out of the blue one day and what I was looking for. I told him I was looking for 22 keys, and he then offered 23 keys out of "generosity".

He then asked whether I had some "irl friends" that can guarantee him I won't trade away the knife while he purchases the keys. I tell him he should trust me because of myself having warned him of another scam attempt a month earlier. I tell him I'm not lending the knife, and he says "I only need to talk, invite him in here so I can talk with him".

I tell him an imitation is impossible as I've applied nicknames to all my friends, suddenly aware of the scam he is attempting. He immediately unfriends me, having failed to have scammed me.

TL;DR - a random steam friend makes a high offer on my knife and wants me to lend it to a friend for "security", but is discovered before he is able to imitate my friend to steal the knife​
