    Scam Report

Report Type: [Rep Fraud] Impersonation with intent to defraud
Virtual item type involved: [TF2] Team Fortress 2 Items

    Accused profile: 76561198316553602

    Victim profile: 76561198122553665

    What happened? Description:
The accused impersonated a well-known user (2OG, http://steamcommunity.com/id/76561198086948995) and attempted to perform a trade offer URL fraud by asking me to trade the items to opskins.com.

    Provide Evidence:
The accused added me as a friend. The accused then asked me if I was selling my unusual, and agreed instantly to my asking price. The accused then asked me for my trade offer link, before asking about opskins.com. Upon me mentioning scammers (due to having previously encountered scammers that attempted the exact same tactic), the accused immediately blocked me.

The accused also has a profile crafted to resemble a well-known trader. The accused as a link to "their inventory" which leads to the backpack.tf inventory of this well-known trader: see file "fullprofile.jpg", notice the URL shown at the bottom of the browser window while hovering over the link. The accused's actual inventory is private.

Note: while the staff has doubtless encountered this type of scam before, just for clarity here is what I believe would have happened: first, the scammer asks the trade offer URL; then, they ask the user to list the item on opskins; if the user expresses lack of experience with the site, the scammer then offers to guide them through the process, eventually reaching the stage where a bot must send a trade offer for the item to the user, to deposit the item to the site; finally, they use an alternate account to impersonate the bot and send a trade offer of their own using the URL provided earlier, tricking the user into accepting the wrong offer and thus giving the item away to the scammer instead of the website.
