    Scam Report

Report Type: [Item Fraud] Misrepresenting virtual items
Virtual item type involved: [TF2] Team Fortress 2 Items

    Accused profile: 76561199055664963

    Victim profile: 76561198371431022

    What happened? Description:
This person friended me earlier today and proceeded to inquire me about my TF2 keys. He said that he wanted to pay me for my keys because "steam client limited my market for so many transactions"
I got a little suspicious but I wanted to know exact how they would pay me before jumping to any conclusions. This user then proceeded to send me a screenshot of a supposed "$10 promo code" (with the last digits covered up) and claimed that if I accepted the trade offer they would reveal the entire code.
I analyzed the screenshot carefully and found "completionist.me" at the bottom of it.
Lo and behold when I go to that website, it looks the exact same as the screenshot he sent me but with different text. I think it's very evident that this user used inspect element to make it seem as though the website provided a promo code to them.

To make things clear, NO ITEMS WERE EXCHANGED
I am not accusing this person of having taken my items, just that they attempted to scam me out of my TF2 keys with payment that they clearly had no intention of fulfilling.

    Provide Evidence:
    The beginning of our conversation

They send the first trade offer, they are offering nothing for 4 TF2 keys
    View attachment 796603
Here is a screenshot of the trade they sent (the now canceled one)
    View attachment 796609
Here are the continued chat logs, the user sends me another trade offer
    View attachment 796604
Here is that second trade offer (this one is still active at the time of writing), I think they wanted to "teach" me badge crafting
    View attachment 796611

Here is the end of our conversation, they removed me as their friend shortly afterwards
    View attachment 796610

Here is "proof of identity" through loading their profile in chat
    View attachment 796612

This is proof of my statements earlier regarding their doctored image
Here is the image they sent me enlarged
    View attachment 796613
You'll notice at the bottom of the image they sent me, the bottom part of the webpage contains "completionist.me"
If you go to the website "completionist.me", it looks like this View attachment 796614
If you then proceed to log into the website through Steam, this is what shows up
    View attachment 796615
Comparing this image ^^ with the one that this user sent me shows some eerie similarities. The layout, pictures, and header locations are all the same. The only thing that is different (apart from whose profile is shown) is the text in the top left and underneath the profile picture.
In their image, it says "G2A promocode" followed by "TM"
whereas the actual website says "completionist.me" followed by "BETA"
Additionally, where their image says "Market", mine says "RetroAchievements"
And the final nail in the coffin: where mine simply says my display name, their image says "Congratulations on your successful purchase . . . "

Please don't hesitate to ask for any further evidence of this user's attempted scam that I may have.

No what I'm asking is you said the image you found on that site and that is how you said it was fake, I need proof of that. I need proof 100% showing that the image they sent was fake.

I know that their image was 100% fake because at the bottom of their image is the url "completionist.me"
After I went to completionist.me, I logged in and the website looked identical to what was in the image this user sent me but it had different text.
Thus, I came to the conclusion that the user had used something like inspect element to change the text to make it look like they were in possession of a promo code.
I go into the differences between the text of the website and the image he sent me in my original post
The user claims that if I accept their trade offer they will "drop full promocode next to screenshot" and sends the screenshot in question
The screenshot they sent me is undeniably fake based on the evidence I have provided above.
They neglected to crop out the bottom part of the screenshot and that is how I discovered what website they used.
Furthermore, completionist.me does not distribute G2A promo codes. It is a website for monitoring achievement progress and history.
If the user had indeed legitimately received a G2A promo code from some website, it is inconceivable to me that this website would contain "completionist.me" in the footer in addition to having the exact same layout of the actual website https://completionist.me/
If this is not enough proof to show that this user attempted to use a doctored image to scam me, please let me know what kind of proof you would need.
