What happened? Description:

He added me a month ago randomly and didn't say anything.

Few days ago he messages me (I am very sick right now and just woke up from a nap so I was drowsy and stupid) asking to trade a set of items for 1150 USD

I am a bit suspicious but I am sick and just lose my job so I also need some money. I go on his profile, I see lots of +rep but I am suspicious because of the period of time they are posted. Also some of the accounts seem fake . Regardless I ignored this (stupid yes)

He told me about his account 10 years old, and high steam level so I didn't think much. I realized after with some research that you can buy these high steam lvl accounts or fake them. He also only had TWO games on this account. another red flag.

I asked him how he knew me and he said we maybe played together. I checked his dota game history and he has barely ANY hours logged on dota and csgo, for a trader with a 10 year account trading these two games this should have been another red flag but again, I was a drowsy stupid idiot. So the game history turns up that he barely actually plays dota, he just sits on the main screen idle, and he plays like 10 games in the entire last year. Again many many red flags I brushed off.


So he then talks about paypaling me money and opens a trade window with me. I calculate the total cost of the items and he's overpaying a bit actually. (value of items was like 880$ USD and he was offering 1150 USD) another red flag. I have screenshots of all of this.

So stupidly I see he has a screenshot of paypal ready to go, he says even "your account is older than mine so if you open support you can get me banned and i love this acct I want a clean deal" so I got fooled.

I send him my items, and he says he actually was missing a few so I even send him a second trade. He then says he is sending money, but oh no! Money is on hold! He can't get me money for 9-10 days perfect amount of time for him to sell the items he scammed from me.

I confront him a few hours later about him still not paying me and hes like chill ill pay you !

once I start threatening him with steam support he keeps delaying saying he will pay. I asked him a few questions which he keeps ignoring like about his profile , or alternative methods to pay me. He just keeps saying wait his money is on hold.

Now I go check, his entire friends list is hidden, his comment section is locked, and his entire inventory is private!


Luckily for him, I did some precautions before I confronted him. I added many of his friends who repped him, one got back to me and said they never traded and that the guy never even repped him back. so now he goes delete the rep he gave him.

I also saw originally that his inventory has 3000 items. Okay seems legit. I did more digging after and its actually like 2500 loading screens (worth like 1 cent each) to i guess fluff up his inventory. Once I asked him about his inventory he instantly set it to private and only shows the top 15 items which are not loading screens

he went offline and hasn't gotten back to me yet. I opened a steam ticket for now. He said he will "fix this" in 2 days so MAYBE I can give him a chance before labeling him a scammer here? or am I still being naive?​

He messaged me first asking to buy some items for 1150 USD.
He sent me a screenshot of the items he wanted, as you see in my first chat log.
We have a quick chat and verify everything he wants. Then he asks me how I want to be paid.
I say Paypal and send him my email

Then he opened a trade with me for these items
