    Scam Report

Report Type: [Money] PayPal scam or scam attempt
Virtual item type involved: [TF2] Team Fortress 2 Items

    Accused profile: 76561198089179347

    Victim profile: 76561198052256411

    What happened? Description:
This user added me a few weeks ago, his profile seemed legitimate on a cursory glance. I added him on 3/13 because I had recently lost my job and had really needed the money, so I thought I could make a little by bulk-trading my TF2 items, as he appeared like a legitimate trader. He offers me $815 for the items I handed over, and without thinking I traded most of my backpack to him on 3/14.

Then he claims he is unable to make the payment because his bank denied the transfer. Prior to this, however, he pretended that he had been just one click away from sending the cash to me. Of course, the money was never sent after that. The morning after (on 3/15) he claims that the money was indeed sent, but when I asked him immediately after to send some sort of proof of payment he set himself to offline. At least he had the courtesy not to block and delete.

Seeing as his account revolves around purchasing backpacks I am totally certain I have fallen for a backpack-for-cash scam.

I've checked most of the accounts on his profile and almost all of them appear to be very dubious (to my eye - i'm not asking that SteamRep gets involved in these), who all leave dozens of (often-directly copied and pasted) versions of "+rep good trader".

This scammer makes a point to flaunt his clean rep on his page, not just his comment rep but his clean SteamRep. The least I would like to do is to make it harder for someone else to fall for the same thing I did.

    Thanks in advance.

    Provide Evidence:
I have attached all my chat logs with this user, including a brief conversation I had with another user who had the misfortune of falling for the same scam. Also included are his profile as well as the trade. I have also included an example of the fake, often-repeated comments under his profile telling people about how awesome of a trader he is. He also is apparently banned from backpack.tf for being a suspected scammer alt, something I wish I had researched earlier. I have included photo evidence of that as well.

To clarify: He added me in late February, I sat on the friend request for a little bit until recently. And yes, in retrospect it appears so freaking obvious that it wasn't a legit deal and the alarm bells only rung once he had said he wasn't able to get the money. Of course, I kept trying to play nice in hopes I would be proven wrong. In being so concerned over trying to make ends meet I accidentally ended up screwing myself bigtime. The user has not removed me off of his friends list but I've accepted the money as good as gone.

Here is my paypal history dating to march 12th (two days before I made the trade with this individual on 3/14) as well as the full trade i did with him. Note that on the photo showing the second half of the trade I can't bring up the hypertext popup because the trade is too big for me to hover the mouse. He has been no-contact with me ever since I asked to see proof of payment two days ago, despite appearing online at least 15 hours ago.
