    Scam Report

Report Type: [Money] PayPal scam or scam attempt
Virtual item type involved: [TF2] Team Fortress 2 Items

    Accused profile: 76561198089745511

    Victim profile: 76561199008392773

    What happened? Description:
Attempted Reddit middleman scam. The scammer reached out to me because he was interested in buying my Unusual Taunt: The Road Rager. He presumably found my steam profile through the steam marketplace, i had no connections to him prior to his scam attempt.

He reached out to me, saying that he is willing to buy my Unusual Road Rager Taunt that I had listed on the Steam Marketplace for 24.34€. He also asked if i was selling my other Unusual Items, Australiums, and anything that has value in my backpack, and what kind of payment i'm accepting. I said that i was only selling the Road Rager Unusual Taunt and that he can pay with keys and refined metal. He said that he doesn't want to pay in keys because they are high right now(which they aren't) offered him to send me the 21€(being the amount of money i would've gotten without Steam taking it's share) via Paypal, after which i would've given him the Unusual Taunt. I had no intentions to not follow up or proceed with what i said i was going to do after i had received the money. Here comes the scam attempt: He asked me to send my items to a Middleman Reddit moderator to make the steam trade authentic, and sent me this Reddit link with fake users/bots as proof or evidence that it is safe: "https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSteamTrading/" I told him that i didn't want to do involve 3rd parties and that i could give him the 3€ difference if he just buys it off of me via the Steam Market, which he also didn't accept. I was questioning the validity of the Reddit server and asked him to show me proof that the Reddit middlemen are genuine and won't scam me, to which he responded with a copy-and-pasted paragraph explaining why it is totally safe, and offered me to trade with this profile acting as the middleman:
    Hidden Content:
**Hidden Content: Content of this hidden block can only be seen by members of (usergroups: Administrative).**
I decided that i've gathered enough evidence and revealed that i knew that it was a scam from the moment he asked me if i was selling my other valuable items. He unfriended me immediately.

Throughout the conversation, i pressured him with questions about his authenticity of not being a scammer and threats that i will report him to a scammer database. This was for no other reason than to just get him sweating and realising that there are repercussions. I had no intentions to not follow up or proceed with the trade had i received the 21€ for the Unusual Taunt: Road Rager via Paypal. I have video evidence of our live conversation with commentary. The timeline is a little bit off in my description, but it tells all of the important details.

    Provide Evidence:
Links that the scammer sent me:
    Their Reddit server: https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSteamTrading
    the middleman:
    Hidden Content:
**Hidden Content: Content of this hidden block can only be seen by members of (usergroups: Administrative).**
rest of the evidence can be found in screenshots, please tell me if i forgot something.

Declined- you can't just report people for wanting to use someone as a middleman - Valve has no official listing of them so anyone can choose to be one.
Anyone can choose to use whomever they like - you either do or you don't. Decline their offer and move on if you don't like what they suggest in a manner to trade but that doesn't make this user guilty because you don't like it. Lastly don't submit reports here with edited evidence - completely makes it worthless and will decline because of that alone.
Please do not submit reports here based off assumptions in the future - you only assumed the user was up to no good and that isn't acceptable.

Nothing provided suggests/shows this user is or was guilty of any wrong doing per policy.
