    Scam Report

Report Type: [Other] Any other fraudulent behavior
Virtual item type involved: [DOTA2] Dota2 Items

    Accused profile: 76561198152746321

    Victim profile: 76561198097539850

    What happened? Description:
Recently, the DotA 2 game on steam had a Battle Pass event (Aghanim's labyrinth). During the course of the event player who buy the battle pass (such as myself) earn a number of drops and rewards.

These item rewards remain UNTRADEABLE/ UNMARKETABLE until after Jan 1, 2023.

However, steam does allow each item to be GIFTED ONCE, before such a date. The items are clearly labelled as "may be gifted". However, in order to gift any item, the used needs to be friends with the recipient for ATLEAST 30 days.

It is common practise among Dota traders and players, to add each other for 30 days to allow them to swap GIFTABLE items between each other, instead of waiting them to be tradeable/ marketable after a year.

Usually the recipient will be gifted an item from the trader, and will in exchange send a trade request of another item, specified beforehand, as payment for the gift.

Now onto the issue I face. I had a similar deal with a player (tagged in report), wherein i would gift 2 items (zeus golden immortal and omniknight rare immortal) in exchange for "magus accord immortal".

Fast forward 30 days, it seems the Omniknight rare immortal can not be gifted, so i suggested i would gift only the zeus golden immortal, for his "magus apex" and "focal resonance".

Basically a discount of 3~ USD to make the exchange more balanced. The scammer agreed to this.

As discussed earlier, i gifted the items 1st (this is usually a leap of faith for many traders, and a sad necessity). However, the scammer refused to accept the trade offer i sent for his items as we had agreed to in our deal. Instead he tried to pry me for more items of mine.

When i bluntly confronted him with the fact that i had already gifted him the items from my side of the deal and that it was his turn to reciprocate before we could talk further, he did the classic "unfriend" on steam.

As such i will attach screenshots of the chatlogs between us, as well as the trade declined by him.

I do not expect to receive any items from the scammer back. I merely want others to be aware of his fraud, especially since one of the reasons i agreed to go first in such a transaction was because his STEAMREP profile had NO REPORTS so far.

    Provide Evidence:
Evidence is attached in PNG below, of:

    1. Scammers steam profile (after being unfriended)
    2. Scammers dota profile, showing the items i gifted to him
    3. Scammer declining to trade items, which we had earlier agreed upon as payment for the gifts.
    4. Chat Logs of our conversations.

Ok so you sent this user items - show that in trade history for starters.

I sent this user items, correct. There is a screenshot of the GIFT on his DotA 2 profile in game (which is the second image attached above). It doesn't count as a trade from my steam inventory, since the transaction happens in the DotA interface of steam.

Now the argument might be, if i gifted an item, how can i expect anything in return? since clearly gifts are given freely.

That might be so, but for anyone who plays DotA regularly or visits the trade forums, you will understand that some items are "not tradeable/ not marketable" for upto 1 year from their initial release. The only way to obtain such items is by adding someone who does own them, and asking them to gift it to you. Usually players with duplicates of such items openly offer to gift them, in return for other items from the receiving party.

In my case, the person who scammed me offered me items of value which he said he would trade to my account, once i had gifted him certain skins in DotA. If you read the Chat logs, he clearly types "send me steam offer after you gifted" which implies that im going to gift him my item, then he accepts a trade of his items. I CANNOT trade my items, they are only giftable.

If there is anything else i can clarify, please do ask. I have myself received gifts from people and sent them a trade offer in return. The trust usually works, but there always has to be a sour grape in the bunch.

All I hope for, is that if this person tries to obtain gifts from other people in the future - promising them compensation through trade - they have a fair chance to judge his character from his previous dealings.

While the items are considered a "gift" in the dota 2 gaming client, and will not show in my steam trade history, I can:

    1. Show screenshots of person receiving the gift, and holding the items in his steam inventory. (gift screenshot already: uploaded)
    2. Show screenshots of myself not having received any gift OR any trades as payment, as previously agreed upon. (screenshot of trade declined: uploaded)

Moreover, it is clear if one reads the chatlogs, that i had NEVER intended to give the items for free. The scammer even debated the price he would pay me for the items gifted to him in the chat screenshots.

As far as steam support policy goes, "gifting is gifting". Does not matter if you agree on a payment for the gift beforehand. This is the reason i did not even bother contacting them. However, even if Steamrep is of the similar view, i would really hope that my evidence can be attached to the scammers profile for any future victims. Im confident the proofs i have provided are sufficient reason for no one to deal with him.

If all these do not add up for whatever reason, i suggest consulting with a moderator who has some experience with the game DotA 2. Some of the more respected members of the DotA trading community have already unfriended the scammer after i reached out to them with the screenshots and chatlogs.

Ok if you can't show proof of the trades then I can't review this is what I'm getting at. Doesn't matter who we consult you have to show proof of trades or not receiving something.
Up to you to do that. I'll give 24hours more additional time to provide evidence of such.

Really sorry! Just found out about the "steam inventory history" tab. It does show all my trades on steam, as well as gifts in the dota 2 client. I have attached below screenshots for more clarity.

1-3. Steam inventory history for all of 19th march 2022. The relevant items (2 of them) can be seen gifted on the timestamp "6:41 PM".
4-5. My steam trade history, preceding almost a month, showing that i have received no incoming trades from the person.
    6. Also, my Dota profile, to show that the accused has not sent me any gifts in return either.

Hope this adds more clarity to the issue.

Ok those are unacceptable per screenshot guidelines.
if you are showing with steam client - client URL must be enabled.
But since you did find trade history for them - do one with steam client first off or a few showing all trades from the initial date you started till today. Make sure previous trades over lap and so on so I see no gaps. Then do a FULL screenshot of the same trade history screen for the trade thru a web browser logged in - hover mouse pointer over users name so it shows up their steam ID at the bottom.
All of this is noted how to and instructions in the screenshot guidelines you were already given a link to.

Alright, i've enabled steam client URL. The screenshots of my trade history can be found below, preceding more than a month ago. For context, I added the accused around 17~18 of february.

I have also posted a screenshot of my inventory history, with the url of user's steam ID as proof of him receiving the gift from me. If you want more of my inventory history in detail, let me know.

Ok so in the conversation you said the user and you agreed till the 26th for a trade, today is only the 22nd..why submit this report prior to that even if you are not friends? I do not know if you removed them or not.

The accused wanted 3 items from me, Zeus Golden immortal (ill hereafter call it Item A), Omniknight Paragon's Pride Bundle (Item B) and SandKing rare set (Item C).

Out of these 3 items, i was only seeing an option to gift on Item A and item C. On 17th march, I mention this to him, and he suggests we wait till the 20th of march to be sure (since that would be 30 days of us being friends on steam, making it possible for us to gift Dota items to each other).

On the 20th on march I checked once again, Item B was still ungiftable. So I suggested that I "unbundle" the set (it contains 2 items inside) and perhaps these 2 items would be giftable. No such luck.

Since now I could only send Item A and item C as a gift, I suggested a lower price, which this user agreed to. After Gifting him these 2 items, I sent him a trade for the items he agreed to as payment, he does Not accept the trade. Instead (after trying to get me to gift him MORE items), he noticed that the Items for ITEM B, which i had unbundled, now show a "On Trade Cooldown Until: Mar 26, 2022 (19:00:00)" tag. While previously it only had a "Tradable & Marketable After: Jan 1, 2023 (2:00:00)".

Now this User, he wants me to wait for until this cooldown ends (mind you, i have already sent him item A and C), so I can try to trade the item B to him, before he accepts the trade in payment for Item A and item C.

I tell him this is unreasonable, that if Item B is really tradeable on March 26th, he can just send a trade for it then. There is no reason for me to either gift it to him, or for him to delay payment for the 2 items i have sent already.

When i openly call him out in my last few messages, he unfriends me right after i tell him payment for the items already sent to him, "isn't much to decide".

    PS:
    1. Other's have been disappointed by Item B not being giftable as well. Just google "omniknight paragons pride immortal bundle not giftable reddit/ steam discussions"

    2. It states on the item description "On Trade Cooldown Until: Mar 26, 2022 (19:00:00)", there is no confirmation that it WILL be tradeable after that date. The original "Tradable & Marketable After: Jan 1, 2023 (2:00:00)" did not get removed after i unbundled the item. For better clarity, I have attached a screenshot of the items in question.

So you're saying there is a chance the scammer will add me back, give me payment for my 2 items which i gifted to him. Then trade the 3rd item on 26th? After he unfriended me, i think the possibility of that happening is HIGHLY unlikely.

Note: 26th is just the date HE suggested, trying to delay payment in order to scam me of more items!!

26th is the date he wanted to trade a 3rd item from me. When i asked him to accept the trade in payment of the 2 items i had ALREADY gifted to him, he instantly unfriended me. In the Chatlogs,(20th march 7:05 PM timestamp) the transaction from my side was already complete for 2 items which we had discussed. He already defaulted on the payment by declining a trade of items he had earlier agreed for an exchange!

There is no way to tell who unfriended who, never the less we will wait till after the 26th before final review just to ensure nothing changes.

If you feel it is necessary to wait until the 27th, I have no issues with that. However, I just want to share some screenshots which show that i am now blocked by the accused. In the very unlikely event that I might have unfriended him, there would be no reason for him to block me.

Will await a response on the 27th.
