well, this guy was honest with reporting a duping (not really "duping", for it didn't copy for real, it made a new item, and yes, its patched) method to valve, and he got a choice unusual as reward

Did he dupe it? And could of he picked a burning team captain?

He worked out how to be able to make a drop on a account of items one wanted. He reported to valve.
Valve gave him a custom wished for unusual. that means: He got to pick the hat and effect, Valve gave it to 'm.

That is pretty awesome.

What's more remarkable is that the TF2 carder mafia didn't figure it out first.

Well it just goes to show that doing the right thing sometimes brings rewards, not often enough granted, but I applaud Valve for acknowledging his honesty.

I'd want a scorching gibus. Nothing would be as satisfying as the rage of people when they see the gibus. (Sadly I will never get it )

Or a burning team captain, sell it, get the scorching gibus and still have $100's of dollars left over.

The item they granted is untradeable. Regardless of what you got, you can't sell it.

Yes, all granted items of this nature (This hat, community items, valve items, golden wrenches, my Lo-Fi Longwave, etc.) all cannot be traded or giftwrapped. They are there to stay on that account unless deleted.

Or you sell the account, such as with the Golden Wrenches.

Illegal.

Not only is it illegal, there have been instances of these accounts that were sold and then through social engineering, it was reverted back to the original account owner. I can't remember the specific number of times this has happened, but I know of at least one occurrence of this.

The original owner of a account can easily get the account back.

May i point out the guy who owns it originally wanted a flies gibus. but because valve took ages to give it to him he asked for the cheaters lament.

He actually blocked the schema or something to make it give him any item in game as long as it is possible to nametag it / paint it / all that.
He found it when trying to paint a cowmangler.
