Hello, Redline here! And I'd like to start a discussion about the Steam Rep and what needs to be changed. I'm a very experienced trader that recently decided to cash-out because of the state of the TF2 community. Recently, some of my very close friends have gotten scammer tags for things that they shouldn't of, based on the Steam Rep Rules. As it states on the Steam Rep website, http://forums.steamrep.com/pages/faq/
    • First offense:
      • Item/Game trades: You will receive a one-time warning for any high-value item or game trade with a SCAMMER or an obvious scammer alternate account. (This warning will be a temporary CAUTION tag that will be removed when you contact SteamRep admins.)
      • Cash trades: You will receive a CAUTION reputation tag for cash exchanges for high-value items with a marked scammer or obvious alternate scammer acount. Helping scammers profit is not something we can encourage.
It clearly says that you get a caution tag for a first offense if trading "any high-value item" with a marked scammer or a obvious scammer alt. It seems that Steam Rep stopped following even there own rules, because recently, two popular traders got a full scammer tag for trading with a scammer for the first time!

Several months back, a close friend of mine made the mistake of trading with a scammer to get his dream hat, a Burning TC. Atomic Potato http://steamrep.com/profiles/76561198029862509 , got a full scammer tag for his first offence of trading with a marked scammer. He should of gotten a caution tag according to the rules. He posted his appeal here -http://forums.steamrep.com/threads/76561198029862509-๖Ątomic-Ξpotato-ppm-sr-scammer.31055/ where it seems it will be lost in the long list of appeals SR never seems to get to, which I'll touch upon later.

Today, Azn_Rawr, http://steamrep.com/profiles/76561198069404572 got a full scammer tag because he bought Atomic Potato's Burning TC. This was also his first offence. It seems like Steam Rep is ignoring there own rules, which must be changed. Either update/fix your rules, or start following them.

Another problem that has come up to me is the awful staffing to report ratio on the appeals forum. I personally have been waiting 9 months for my appeal to be touched, and nothing has come up yet, last time I asked SR about it they said that they where backed up a bit on reports. It doesn't seem like you guys made any attempt to fix this. This is a link to my appeal - http://forums.steamrep.com/threads/redline-76561198056719809.16474/ . And to show that I'm not a exception, my friend has been waiting OVER ONE YEAR to get his appeal touched by and admin or moderator, http://forums.steamrep.com/threads/76561198043826027-84drule-sr-caution.8621/ Steam Rep either has to get more admins or moderators, or make its current ones work triple time, because if you get a caution tag on this site, you might as well wait till TF2 dies out, because that's how long it will take for an admin to get to it.

Steam Rep needs to change a lot of things, and I feel that someone had to step out of the crowd and say something about it.

You clearly don't read - you put the trading with scammer policy out of context to feed the agenda to complain.
    You forgot this part:
Clearly it says if you trade but are unaware of SteamRep you get the warnings - if you know and yes many will lie and say they do not know, you will get scam tagged end of story.

You may not know a person was a scammer but if they/you know of SteamRep then it is then up to you/them to check SteamRep against that other trader.

Not going to really comment on the other complaint.

It seems you don't read either.
    • New traders: New traders who are unaware of SteamRep will not receive penalties to their reputations, but will receive a one-time warning.
    • First offense:
      • Item/Game trades: You will receive a one-time warning for any high-value item or game trade with a SCAMMER or an obvious scammer alternate account. (This warning will be a temporary CAUTION tag that will be removed when you contact SteamRep admins.)
It states that you will receive a one-time warning with no penalties, and a first offense your one warning will include a temporary caution tag. Please stop trying blur the image by making it not seem as bad as it is.

    Hello there

    Sadly Redline is right.

I have been waiting over a year just to clear my name with my appeal. I opened a post before but still sr caution appeal admins are not really caring of appeals unless the caution tag owner is a community admin.
    http://forums.steamrep.com/threads/isnt-it-time-to-handle-caution-tags.32870/

my appeal is the oldest one on steamrep. passed over a year. for once it became to ready to review but i dunno what happened an angry steamrep admin made all of them to pending again.

when i wanted to talk with a steamrep appeal admin when i had the tag in first time 1 year ago, he threatened me to check all trades i made even for a scrap and he said that he will find another failure of mine and will tag me as scammer forever. eventually this angry selfish appeal admin made me scared and i gave up for a while. since that time, no appeals have been made on caution tags.

like every unusual trader i made some mistakes in my trading life. but i always act honest about these mistakes. even the last weeks trade of mine. i accidently bought some unusuals from a hijacker with quicksell. and i opened the scam report by myself.
    http://forums.steamrep.com/threads/76561198040850810.42909/

i am a root admin on B.O. trading community and 2 years passed and still trading with my honor. and like the other caution tag owners i learnt my lesson long time ago but this is unfair. because none of the appeal admins helped me out of this situation.

Mattie! 's reaction to my post is simple but not a good excuse. as he said caution tags are being processed by older to newer. as i bumped my post i had never have a chance to get ready to review. tho no one still had that chance even the bottom appeal. also are steamrep admins blind or sth that they can not see the date stamp on the posts? and they start from the bottom appeal first not with the oldest date stamp appeal?

personally i like how steamrep cares and protects us from scammers but i hate the style of steamreps "bag and tag, and forget it" policy. its always easy to tag someone for steamrep but taking care of it never have been easy. after a long time ago when i had my caution tag for a tiny mistake i made, i lost my believe in steamrep appeal admins that doing their job. they are kinda busy with monkey business not appealing tags.

    have a nice day

OP, I think you forgot the common sense clause; your friend traded for a God tier Team Captain, which easily go for over 1000$.

For such trades, the chances that both parties are completely unaware of Steamrep is practically, none.
Your friend did indeed know that the hat was scammed and belonged to a scammer, and still proceeded with the trade, helping the scammer launder his goods.
Knowing that, your friend doesn't deserve a caution, doesn't it?

And the other guy got a tag for the same reason. It's mostly common sense.

There's a diffrence between the New Traders rule and the first offence rule. As it says, trading ANY high-value item will give you a temporary caution tag. The TC is expensive and is "High-value." It seems your confusing the New Traders rule and First Offence rule.

If you buy a stolen radio, you won't get the same penalty as if you buy a stolen Lamborghini Gallardo.

Both cases are wrong, but you know the drill more than ever if you're buying a stolen luxury car.

That might be true, but your rules don't state that, they say "ANY high-value item" This can be from a bill's hat to a Burning TC. If your radio to Lambo is what SR believes, then they should change the rules so they state that, but as of now, SR is not following what there own rules say.

    Please read: (From FAQ page)

As I said, your friend clearly knew what he was doing, and helped a scammer to launder his good for profit. The admins found his intent clear and guilty for his actions. Same for the other guy.

    There's nothing else to add.

A problem with this: SR can't just get any SR mods or admins so that's not just as quick a solution as it may seem to you. Also you cant make the current admins and mods work triple time as they volunteer. If they tried to force the admins and mods to work on reports overtime then steamrep would crash and burn.

I don't know what is easier to believe:
I explained this to you already-- sorry you don't believe it.

Your friend demonstrated that he would go to any length to get that hat, using one of his alternate accounts to purchase and hold a Burning Team Captain to avoid detection on his primary account. He knowingly was helping a scammer profit, went WELL out of his way to do so, paid cash, and did so for the most expensive item in TF2.

Per our FAQ, if it's clear they were knowingly working with scammers for their own profit, then they get a SCAMMER tag.It can be reviewed during appeal, but I stand by the tag as that's exactly the sort of shadiness this community doesn't want to encourage and absolutely should be flagged on his reputation. Given the attempt to hide the transaction, it's hard to know if he's brokering, if he does this all the time, etc. That behavior should get no respect and I can't fathom why people are defending those actions when it's not like he did it as an accident-- he knowingly went out of his way to pursue shady cash business transactions with a scammer account. If he'd do it for a Burning TC for his "collection" then he'd do it for any item he wanted.

The rules are clear as Sjru quoted above-- if they are knowingly aiming to profit via a marked scammer, they get a SCAMMER tag. Azn_Rawr is a long-time friend of Potato's and knew the consequences of acquiring high value items from marked scammers-- and this is a god-tier item that he knows Potato himself got marked for purchasing. He is welcome to file an appeal but the tag is of the same origin.

To that end, now it looks even more like Potato bought the hat to sell... and Azn_Rawr seemed happy to wreck his own reputation to own it. But he should get his appeal into the queue quickly as there is a big backlog-- a different admin will handle it (as with Potato's).

Yep, we're very backed-up on everything. This is a major issue but it is a difficult one. We'll keep working at our resourcing problems. We are no stranger to them and apologize for those delays.

Yes, SteamRep needs a lot of changes-- we're working on those. In the meantime, people can decrease our workload by not doing shady things. :)

Look at what you just posted here and just read it over and over.... It means if you already know about SR you get tagged a scammer - if you DO NOT know about SR you get the warnings, how hard is it to really understand here? I'm not going to type out some long drawn out response, I will leave it as just this post and be done with it.

So is everyone assuming this was done to profit, or is that a fact? Any of you know what Rawr paid for it, or that Atomic Power even made profit?

    ^ Dignity has a point.
Did anyone ever think (Atomic Potato/Azn_Rawr/insert name here) finally found a trader who was selling a Burning Team Captain...his dream hat that he wanted for a long long long time.
He saw that the trader had a scammer tag. He wanted the hat, but didn't want the tag so he used an alt to get the hat.

This rule needs a major revise to show that you're looking out to protect traders, and not punish the non-scammers. Azn_Rawr did nothing wrong as Atomic Potato never did any real major scamming but both were punished.

Steamrep has a lot of power in controlling trading, use the power wisely please.

I don't want to go to jail, so I'll hire a guy to buy a stolen car for me.
Isn't that hard to not to trade if he knows the guy has a scammer tag?
Trying to conceal his purchase with an alt is not good, no?

Sometimes it's better to resist the temptation.

Yes they did things wrong, we already stated that.
Both knew what they were doing and proceeded with the consecuences.
They helped a scammer to profit. And honestly, we cannot trust an user who does decide to deal with bad users after all.

I'll stop posting in this thread, they're not innocent. End of story.

In some cases... Fred(making up a name) tried to steal a car, failed, was marked as a thief.
Fred later buys a car honestly.
William person buys a car from Fred
Fred gets in trouble from buying an item from a marked thief.

^ Correct me if I'm wrong if Fred purposely buys from William would not receive a marking.

To SR the attempt to is equal to being successful at a scam, no matter the value, be it a scrap or a $ 500,- unusual. There's no difference to us. So on WHAT grounds should it be a exception for us to ignore?

I'll tell you: none. The rule is to NOT trade with scammers knowingly. We go a long way in preventing this being a petty thing, by having a lower limit, but on a very expensive hat while knowing fully well and intention? no way.

This thread is going nowhere. Locking.
